Most of these sites will accommodate any size rigs. There are reservable and first come sites as well as a swim beach & boat launch. At the end of the highway leading to the park there is a small lighthouse that is worth the drive.

The easy to back into site was right on the lake nicely spaced away from nearby sites. It was large and had a ring of trees around it. Vault toilets were very well kept up and clean. It was a gorgeous night and we hope to return.

We made a reservation on recreation.gov without a problem. Site 30. It was early August. No bugs and a great view of the bay. Some sites are first come first serve. The campsites are spaced apart well. There is no dump station. Water came from an artesian well and was excellent. If you get a fcfs site there is a check-in station. You will leave payment in an envelope in a box. The camp host does not get involved in the process. There is a private campground a few miles north that will allow dumping and water for $10.

We grabbed a FF site on the water which opened up to a beautiful green space with benches and water access. The day use public beach swim area is in the same area but off to one end. Great sunsets! BRING your own water!
We thought we didn’t run the well long enough but no, the water is very brown... didn’t even give it to the dogs😕

I hiked Maywood History trail in the morning which was quick, easy and a great wake up… Great spot for a one night stay.

We reserved two nights but after scoping out the grounds, we opted to stay at a beachfront RV park. Signage to direct you in a large rig is a rare sight. Hardly any of the sites are waterfront unless you book sites 32 through 38 or whichever comes last next to the camp host. We had attempted to switch our spots to one of those from site 23 because there were multiple open without reserved signs but we couldn’t get in touch with hosts. We were here 6/18/21 and the bugs were INSANE. Maybe we are just come city folk but I just don’t see the enjoyment in camping with SO MANY BUGS lol. That being said, if you want to pay an astronomical amount for no hookups/no UP recreation nearby/no cell service then this is your spot.

Picked Little Bay de Noc off the map because it was the right spot between points A and B of a long drive. Returned on the return trip because it was so pleasant. Lucked into the same Twin Springs lakeside spot both times as a walk in.

It’s hit or miss and the difference is about a quarter mile’s worth of how big your spot, and slotted privacy, might be. Sites 28 and 29, along with a couple in the low 20s which were even better, took first place in the Most Likely to Be Bigger Than the Average Suburban Yard competition. Lakefront sites are “no duh” good for the sunset and splashery, however save for 30 - 32, they’re wide open city park grassland where any Rover can roll his eyes on over to your good luck at keeping your campsite experience to yourself.
Mosquitos in the park came in small waves and were easily defeated.
Even if you wanted a waterfronter, people were reserving first come first serve sites for friends–who didn’t always occupy the spot the first 24 hours, as per posted regulatory statutes visible throughout the park and the unspoken word of the forestdweller–but the host didn’t seem to mind. Also of note was the wide variety of trash scattered throughout the campground, from trailheads to throughout the woods behind sites.
The host did take issue with me needing to run to town to get the $5 I was short for our last night’s stay, as “Revenue is due by 2pm.” First time I’ve heard that but he did eventually let us slide and without penalty of law.
This place would have easily snagged a 5er in the ol’ constellational ratings scale from me simply for the old-growth trail through the “Maywood”, apparently a slice of beach and forest that was used by locals to throw day drinking festivals as often as possible and so was therefore spared when most of the rest of Michigan’s trees were clear cut and turned into small pieces of green paper. The lushness of this short .6 mile jaunt is a fern and moss covered, nurse log and big tree display of what nature can do with a few hundred years worth of time on her hands.
We carried out an entire kitchen garbage bag worth of junk just from behind our one site and the trailhead though, which should never be allowed to accumulate while a privately owned company is “managing” the park.
Praying to the Verizon gods allowed for me to work during the day, but apparently their wrath is unleashed in the evenings as often–even with two bars of the almighty LTE–my phone simply refused to connect.
