Little Arsenic Springs Campground

We stayed in site 13! Gorgeous view. We have 20 ft camper fits great at this site. Level , covered picnic area. Definitely recommend this place. The only reason for the 4 star was it was hard to enjoy outside due to the biting flies. Also we believe that local town people attempted to steal our solar panels as it’s was ripped but unfortunately for them the solar panels were chained. We heard the noise my husband yelled out what’s that noise. We believe that startled them and left. We reported.. the park ranger came to check with us twice and was very helpful and kind. Just be cautious with your surroundings.
It truly is a beautiful site and we recommend it.

There are multiple small campgrounds near the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument, all of which are first come, first serve. Little Arsenic has 6 campsites, some on the canyon rim. We stayed in site 10 which was very quiet and private. Covered picnic table was a plus. Water spigots in campground. Vault toilets were clean and well maintained. Piñon pines provide privacy but not a whole lot of shade. T-mobile 5g service had 2-3 bars. Staff at Wild Rivers visitors center was friendly and informative. Great hikes and beautiful views.

Based on other reviewers, we decided to stay a little further outside of Taos. I’m so glad we did. The spot backed right up to the gorge and we were overlooking the river for our whole stay. The spots are clean and the vault toilet was an extra bonus. Occasionally other campers would pull into other spots, but they are all so nicely spaced that the privacy was wonderful. We got to meet a few of the park employees and everybody was really helpful. We will be coming back. Verizon was only 3G and occasionally a bit spotty… But nothing we couldn’t deal with. We work full-time from our rig and were able to email, text, talk on the phone, and surf the Internet. Videoconferencing was not an option but so what? It was so beautiful here I would’ve stayed for a month. We got here at the end of October and the days were warm. The nights did hover in the mid 30s…

We happened upon this place while exploring from nearby Red River. We immediately went back and got our camper and claimed a spot here (first come, first served). It is dry camping for sure... water is available, but there is no dump station. We ended up in spot 13 at Little Arsenic. The view of the gorge is great. It does warm up into the 80s during the day, but the nights are nice and cool. Mosquitos are minimal, but there are biting flies. However the site is fairly level, and there is a very nice covered picnic table, and pit toilets are nearby.

My AT&T signal was spotty, but I am currently posting this from my hotspot at my camp site without using a signal booster. I also have a WeBoost cell booster, and it it work fine from here.

We plan to come back, but maybe in May or late September, to avoid the insects and enjoy cooler daytime temps. It's not too hot here now, but when you factor in the heat, and insect repellant: multiple showers are are a must... Then when you consider that the closes place to legally dump your gray tank is 15 miles away.... you kinda get the picture.

There is a nice visitor center open on the weekends and multiple hiking trails. I definitely recommend it for folks who like to dry camp. We were able to pick up several OTA television stations, and running one AC unit with our generators was more than adequate.

The place is beautiful and very well maintained. Based on the other user comments I decided to give this place a go (along with the other campgrounds in this area) and see if I had any luck with getting a good data/cell signal.

I have a Verizon cell phone plan, a Verizon hotspot plan, and an AT&T hotspot plan and though it showed 4 bars for Verizon I still couldn't connect to data. AT&T had no connection at all.

While I was there checking it out, it has a fantastic view of the Rio Grande, each spot was really nice and clean, the bathroom (pit toilets) was surprisingly clean as well.

I wanted so bad to stay here, but because I needed to work I had to move on. So if you don't need data or possibly cell, then it's a perfect spot.

This is a remote fairly primitive campground. There is water available in the campground and vault toilets. Fabulous stars. Our view of the canyon was incredible. No phone service, no internet, no newspaper. Bring a hummingbird feeder. We had Broadtails, Black Chinned, and Calliopes. We hiked Big Arsenic and Little Arsenic trails down to the river. Big Arsenic is my favorite, not only is it somewhat less steep I think it is lovely. The roads are great for bike riding.

All of the campgrounds in Rio Grande del Norte National Monument are very similar. They're small, clean and many sites have views of the canyon.

Verizon worked with a booster for voice calls, and without the booster reception was spotty. Data was non-existent.

AT&T worked fine for data, we actually found that it was better un-boosted. We didn't measure up and down speeds while we were there, but it was fine for work.

I wish we had time to explore the area more and check out some of the trails.

Arrived noon on a Friday and there were, in my experience, lots of people here. 5 of 6 Big Arsenic sites taken, all 4 Montoso sites taken, but only 1 of Little Arsenic's sites were taken. There will be 5 of 6 sites here taken as we have friends in. This CG is quiet, well-appointed and includes water (which was broken last time we were here). It is pretty remote, comparatively.
It's rainy, but it's the monsoon season here in NM. Being on the rim of the Rio Grande Gorge is pretty special, as are the hikes down into the canyon. We have a senior pass, which halved the $7 rate.
