Some A-hole stole our step we use to get into our van while we were out for the day. Rookie maneuver leaving it out I guess. Can’t trust anyone these days when will we learn?

Not much privacy between sites. #10 was small and a large rig would not fit. Weird neighbor beside us but no other site to move to. Still it is a nice park with a swimming hole spring and river for canoeing. Nice clean bathhouses. Close enough to Brandon or Fish Creek for eating out or shopping.

Camp 37 is awfully tight with some tough turns and oak trees. Camp 45 is really good and deep. Camps 24 and 25 or nice pull through lots. The swimming Program here is kind of screwed up if you ask me. They let people swim from 9 to 1 for two dollars a person and then the afternoon time is 2 to 6. It seems it would be better to just let everyone pay five bucks and swim all day but they don’t do that. Bath houses could be kept up a little more with the toilet paper as I went in the early morning and there was none and several people were in dire need.

There's a playground for our little boy, but the park is lacking on any trails. It's an ok place to base for activities in the surrounding area; about an hour from everything. Couple little craft breweries and restaurants nearby as well.

This county park is one of three in the area and they are definitely used by the locals. We arrived around noon on a Friday and the park was full. The friendly staff treated us fairly and we got in the next morning with one of the three sites that vacated. With some changeover, the campground stayed full the entire 5 days we were there. I understand showing up at 8 am when they open the gate is your best bet for getting a site.
The campground is split up between two loops. Try for the sites on the river with site 45 being the best one we saw for privacy and views. Sites are electric/water only with dump on site and potable water. Two bathhouses with showers, nice enough. For a full campground it was very quiet.
Not many people enjoying the springs while we were there even though they are 72 degrees year round. It’s $2 per person to partake in the swim area. Very pretty, clear water. From first glance it looks like a big swimming pool.

Beautiful! Sites are spacious, allow for two tents/two vehicles and include lighted hook up, fire pit, picnic table, and a gorgeous tree canopy overhead. Peaceful and easy to navigate. Spied raccoon and opossum on our night-walk.

There are three parks in Hillsborough county that offer camping and this one is our favorite. It is perfectly located to everything Tampa has to offer and yet far enough away to feel tucked away from it all. Any full time or seasonal traveler will appreciate their no reservations - first come first serve policy. Arrive on a Sunday or early in the week and you are almost certain to get in. I would recommend calling the office the day before to check to see how many sites may become available. You can only arrive during business hours, though we've seen campers waiting to come in at 8:00 when the gate opens.
The sites are all well laid out, all with power and water and a dozen or so with 50 amp. None of the sites have sewer connections, though a dump station is available. Our 36' fifth wheel would fit comfortably in 20 or so of the 45 sites. When you arrive you'll be able to drive through and see the sites available and then stop back in the office and pick the site you like best.
When you are there you must experience a float down the Alafia River, which runs through the park. Here's a video we took going down the river. https://youtu.be/_NO4cpi02pw Bring your bikes too. They have a great bike/hike trail in the park as well as connect to the 20+ mile fishhawk preserve multi-path system. Bring your bathing suits too. You just have to take a dip in the clearest Florida spring, which the park is named for.
