We stayed here as a jumping off point to see several areas, Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman (well worth the time), drove down Hwy 191 to do a hike (had planned to camp there and glad we didn’t, that road is bumper-to-bumper traffic), drove into Butte to see The Berkeley Pitt and the World Museum of Mining (wasn’t very impressed with the museum, and also drove to Ringing Rocks (which after the rain, the road was muddy, needed 4-wheel drive and clearance). We also hiked at Buffalo Jump State Park and Missouri Headwaters State Park.
While at Lewis & Clark Caverns we took the cave tour and did some hiking, all enjoyable.
We camped at Site A1, the electric sites were taken when we got there. We took A1 because we didn’t want to disturb too many people with our generator. With a couple of days of rain and wind our batteries were depleted (no solar when raining).
Because we stayed so long we bought a one-year non-resident state parks’ pass. The fee for non-residents is $10 higher/night.
Bathrooms were clean and showers were so-so and costly. The bathroom/shower building could all use an update.
We were visited by deer each night in the field across the road from us.
The dump is an additional $5 charge whether you stay there or not. There are some water spigots in the campground, but not where you could easily fill up unless you happened to chose a site near them. The only other option is a spigot at the entrance/exit to the dump and it’s on a hill. Meaning, first you’re blocking the dump was filling and you’re filling at an angle. They do have potable water by the dump area but the way they have it set up, you can’t attach your own hose and it was on the wrong side for us. Not a great setup but we waited until everyone had finished dumping before we blocked the dump station.

This was a very nice CG (StatePark). Water on each loop, nice dump station, yes they charge you $5. One loop has electric. It was very well kept park, nice staff. Caverns and visitors centers were outstanding. We would stay here again. Cell service not to good, it is a ways to town.

Site #D05
Back in Electric only
Cost $34 per night + $10 reservation/transaction fee
Non Resident campers DO NOT have to pay the daily vehicle entrance fee for days camped
They charge $5.00 per dump (not included with stay at campground)
This is a Montana State Park Campground. Reservations are made through Reserve America. There is a 14 night maximum stay. If and when I come back to Montana again I would strongly consider getting a non resident state park pass. Currently they cost $50 for 12 months. That gives you free entrance to all the state parks and discounted camping fees. At this particular park it would be $10 off per night.
This campground has both electric (50 & 30 amp) and dry camping sites. There are mostly back in sites, and some pull throughs. The pull through sites are parallel to the main campground road. The back in sites are located in circular loops (the loops contain 7 campsites). The road within the campground is paved, but the sites themselves are gravel. Each site has a picnic table & fire ring. Likes the spacing between the sites nWhile there are many nice mature trees, they don’t interfere with any of the actual campsites. In addition, this campground has a few cabins and a tent that people can stay in.
There is a dump station with 2 dumps, but it is not included with your stay here. There are multiple signs near the dump saying there is a $5.00 fee per dump. They even have fee envelopes already prepared with the cost on the envelopes. Near the dump station they also have potable water in addition to water spigots within the loops.
Campground has a playground, vault toilets, restrooms with flush toilets and showers. The showers cost $3.00 for 6 minutes. The showers were filthy. The dump station looked cleaner than the showers.
Site D05 was plenty long enough for our 37 foot class A and Honda CRV. The site wasn’t the most level as our front tires were pretty close to being off the ground. If staying here more than a night would’ve considered using blocks.
There was ZERO Verizon signal at this campground. Did notice some campers with Starlink, including the camp host.

We saw the sign for the park as we were heading somewhere else and decided to try it since it sounded interesting. I called ahead because we had just come from dry camping and needed some water, and asked about the sites with hookups. They were advertised as having electric so I asked about water. The person I spoke with wasn’t sure, but figured electric would also come with water.
We set up in a pretty level pull through spot and all of the spots were pretty nicely spaced apart. The park was nicely taken care of, large lawns that were well maintained and a playground for kids. Our site only had electric with no water. There was a community spicket that possibly you could hook up to just to fill your tank, but you’d have to have a long hose. We just decided we would fill up at the dump station on our way out.
The next day we tried to get a cavern tour but they were all full until the 2:00 tour so we decided not to stay. Not the fault of the park, we knew we were chancing it trying last minute.
We stopped at the dump station to fill up water (dumping is an extra $5 but water is free), but the water connection wasn’t threaded, so if you have a tank with threads it won’t work. We were able to pull up and hook up to a spicket, but that took a good half hour just to fill 60 gallons.
No cell service at all.
Would only stay again if we were able to reserve the cavern tours.

Camphosts we're super nice. They would bring camp wood to you. I'm glad we had electric because we had no shad except from our own camper. The camp sites were fairly level. The site has pay showers but you cannot adjust the water temperature. For me, the water was too hot to stand under. The dump station appears to be new. You can pull in from either direction allowing two people at one time. We were able to stream a movie with Verizon and a booster inside the van. We had 5 bars T-Mobile 5g at the top visitor center and occasionally at the camp. We mostly had slow at&t 4g roaming when not using the booster. If you're a bicyclist, they have some great tent spots. The facilities for bikers looks new. Picnic tables have vices that allow you to work on your bike. We didn't get reservations for the caverns but they looked interesting.

We camped at the Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park Campground in late June for two nights while visiting the caves. Our nightly rate reflects the Non-Resident Montana State Parks Pass discount. Our campsite was in Loop A site 14 with some shade trees. The campground has a dump station, potable water, trash receptacles and a modern bath house with warm showers. The cost to shower is 12 quarters for 6 minutes, there is a coin machine at the bath house. Each campsite has a fire ring and table with plenty of space between campsites. The campground is very clean and peaceful, there are hiking trails at the campground, and the caves are a short drive away. We had one-bar of Verizon service without a booster. Overall we had a great time at this campground and would certainly return again.

“Extra Fees ”
noted 5/23/2023
I almost booked at this campground for a one night, but ended up not finishing my reservation. The cost is $24 for residents, $34 for non residents. Then there is a $10 reservation fee, and $8 per vehicle per day for a day use fee! With two vehicles, that would have been another $32 for us for a simple overnight. This brings it to a total of $76 for one night for electricity only. No thank you
noted 5/12/2020
As of May 1st the camp is open and camp hosts are on site. The Caverns tours and Visitor Center are still closed due to COVID. The vault toilets are open and very clean. Water taps and dump station are open as well. The "comfort station" bathrooms and showers are still closed but I believe that is due more to cold weather/freezing issues rather than COVID concerns. Group shelter/picnic pavilion is also closed.
