Overall Rating

I originally planned to visit the Owyhee Wilderness / Leslie Gulch in 2020; but, then Covid hit, finally making it there in October 2023. This area like most of eastern Oregon is volcanic and this are is full of volcanic formations, interlaced with meadows in the canyons, like no other place I have been to.
The campground is very basic, no water, power, cell service, or any nearby service, you are in the wilderness. There are no number sites, they are all gravel, many are uneven, front to back. The scenery is amazing, lots of hiking trails that take you up through lots of canyons and overlooks. It’s definitely dark sky country.
The nearest town is Jordan Valley, 42 miles away. About half of the drive is on dirt roads, the last 14 miles are dirt, the last 5 miles are rough, no high clearance needed, but go slow. This is where I decided to get rid of my “Covid Trailer”. The scenery makes the bumpy ride all worth it.
