After putting the GPS location into Google Maps, we followed CO-90 a LONG ways out of Naturita. At the coal power station, we followed CO-90 up a slight hill to the right, and then kept going.
If you look at the Google Map, right after you cross over the San Miguel river for the first time, you’ll be in Piñon, and you’ll take a sharp right and follow BB36 road to the campsite.
Well, “Piñon” turns out to be a collection of three signs, pointing in different directions. And taking the sharp right was impossible because there was a closed gate across the road that said NO TRESPASSING in big letters.
We tried to keep following CO-90 to see if we could find the campground further down, and the road just wound on for forever. In “Piñon,” the road turned to dirt and all cell signal completely disappeared, so you’re just out wandering aimlessly at that point.
We finally found a little shady spot off to the left of the road that was pretty level so we stayed there last night.
If this place exists, it isn’t at the GPS coordinates given in this listing. Just be aware before you start down this rabbit hole. :)
