Anyone have issues getting into cactus patch with a 40’ and tow vehicle? Enough room on the site?

I will say the sites are sort of a U shape drive through, I tow a 30' trailer and with my truck (20+ ft) I would say I was at just about the limit of getting through the site.

We have visited many state parks in New Mexico over several years including Cactus Patch Campground. We arrived early so decided to stop at the campground office only to find all personnel were in the back room, a man came out looking like we disturbed him, he checked our reservation and asked us if we had our annual pass. This was the park superintendent Gonzalez who instead of welcoming us to his campground, boldly stated that I didn’t pay for the annual pass and should be charged an extra $6 for my reservation. Apparently the NM reservation system allows you to enter your America the Beautiful Senior Pass and receive a park discount, but apparently it's the wrong annual pass - he was referring to the NM State annual pass which we have never had. The Superintendent acted like I was trying to get away with something and continued with that line after I told him the problem was on his end and would be happy to pay whatever additional fee I owed. It wasn’t my fault the website took the wrong type of number and applied a discount. I had been filling out the reservations just like this for several years. He said he would make a note in my profile to make sure I was charged in the future. So the problem is really on the NM end, they either need to be more specific as to which pass they are referring to, or fix their software to only recognize their own numbering system. Also note there are states that do take the America the Beautiful Annual Senior Pass, so that alone was not unusual. Irregardless of the “un-welcome” reception we enjoyed our stay here anyway and actually discovered some newly improved trails that we liked very much - clean campground and always a very pleasant stay here.

Stayed at site #11 - it was a pull thru site on a level concrete slab. I was surprised to see that we had a nice covered picnic area, fire pit and water/electric at the site. Would definitely stay here again as the sunset and views are beautiful.

I stayed 4 nights in the Cholla section, then the remaining nights in the Cactus loop. The Cholla felt more spacious. Overall though, this spot has everything you need and a wonderful camp host! Great cell service with both Verizon and AT&T!

We really liked this state park! Nice trails, mountain views, clean showers and bathrooms. The "shelter" at the site was the icing on the top! Loved the greasewood loop. Beware it is a little tight in areas.

I would also add that we stayed at site 29, which was advertised as having 50 amp but was way too small for a rig having a 50 amp plug. Our trailer was out into the roadway a bit. We were told that when this campground was being extended, sites 27, 28, and 29 were planned to be larger but while digging they ran into buried artifacts and stopped digging. So those sites are small with 50 amp service. Our neighbors with 20' and 22' trailers fit nicely in their spots.

We visited Old Mesilla Village and several shops & galleries. Lunch on outdoor patio of Andele’s Dog House. Took photos of ruins of nearby Fort Selden. Photographed stars from our campsite.

Roads/site were gravel and there was a concrete pad big enough to get all the RV supports on the pad. Level. The picnic table was covered and had half walls on two sides. Some sites have picnic tables with full walls on two sides for extra wind protection. Totally contactless check-in. Saw the camp host walking around in the mornings changing tags, but that was it. Bathhouse was by the ranger station – too far to walk to when it was cold in my opinion. No wifi, good OTA, 4 bars LTE Verizon. Trains do come by on occasion (heard them twice a day). It freaked out my cats the first time, but they didn’t really notice afterward. Nice facility with trails and a playground. Easy drive to Las Cruses and Hatch. Eat at the Pepper Pot in Hatch if you drive that way. Excellent food. Ok campground and is a good value.

We stayed here one night (10/23/21) enroute to Big Bend NP. Arrived around 2 p.m. Drove directly to the site without any check in. Name on post and never saw the host. Great pull-thru site with level concrete pad for parking the trailer. We didn't want to unhook and were pleasantly surprised that we didn't need to. Nice covered and shaded picnic table with very clean fire pit. It was a bit breezy so we didn't get to enjoy picnic table. Water and electric at the site (which we didn't use as we were only staying for 15 hours). Used the free showers. Water was nice and hot. Only stayed on for about 2 minutes at a time but we are used to Navy showers as we don't usually have sites with hookups.
We took one of the easy hikes to the river and got a glimpse of the Dam Keepers house. Saw an amazing sunset.
Easy access in to the campground - not far from the I 25 and another state highway but pretty quiet at night.
