The road in from Telluride is a good road. People had large campers and fifth wheels up there. We came in from the north and the roads weren’t really bad there either but you definitely couldn’t take a camper through that area. We have a Jeep and I don’t think we ever had to put it in 4WD. The whole drive on Last Dollar Road was very pretty. On the north side by Ridgeway there is a location where some scenes from the original True Grit movie was filmed. The camping area is one of the most beautiful places we have ever camped.

If you come in from the telluride side you can get to the large lot people camp in. Any farther does require a decent vehicle.

The road up to the site marked on Campendium did not require a high clearance vehicle. There were several vehicles like Subaru's up there. We pulled a 42' 5th wheel and had no issues.

I’m not sure about these prior reviews but in August 2023 the road is impossible for ANY kind of camper. Holes, rocks and narrow. The road from Telluride is worse. I wouldn’t come her without a 4x4 and tent only.
