“Lovely Campground Fallen On Hard Times”

This campground has a great location. Located on Frenchman’s Bay but far from the crowds at Bar Harbor and Acadia. Upkeep has not been good. Garbage bins overflowing, minimal site clean up and even the bath house wasn’t cleaned. No tissue in ladies and no way to dry hands in men’s. Staff doesn’t seem engaged and rarely visible.

We collected mussels on the shore for dinner, picked apples all over the park, and bought fresh lobsters nearby several times. Close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Great signal on Verizon. Our site wasn't very trailer friendly and it was hard to level up but worth the trouble for the incredible views. The showers were okay...a bit dingey looking but warm water and plenty to choose from. We heard the lobster boats early in the morning but it wasn't bothersome. Really nice staff at this park!

2nd time we have camped here, 1st in a tent, this time in a small trailer. No hookups on any site. Sites are a bit close together for our taste, but as most campers are playing hard by day and sleeping hard by night, the quiet was astounding. Bathhouses are like many Maine state parks - individual unisex showers (free) and mens/ladies rooms. Composting outhouses are placed liberally throughout the campground. The state park adjacent to the campground has a good boat launch and dock; our kayaks launched easily and we could store them securely at the park if we wished. A nice in-between location for Acadia, Bar Harbor, and the Schoodic area
The whole park looks as though it is being ignored by the state parks administration. One shower and 3 bathroom stalls were out of order during our stay, and were still OOO when we stopped by a week later. I suspect lack of personnel due to COVID is the cause.

Beautiful camping. Surrounded by trees and a short walk to a rocky beach. There’s a tree house for the kids as well as a small playground. Rangers were super nice and helpful. The kids enjoyed the Jr Ranger program too. About a 30 minute drive to Acadia. Crappy cell service.

We came after a few days of rain, so the site was pretty muddy but we have a view of the water through the trees, and were close to the bathrooms. The bathhouse has several individual locked shower stalls and a dishwashing station which was great. The staff is super friendly. They have firewood for $5 a bundle and ice for $2.50.
There is a playground and boat launch and about 1/2 mile down the road is beautiful Lamoine Beach which is great for kids. You are close to the main section of Acadia, as well as the lesser known but gorgeous Schoodic Peninsula section as well.
There are several sites directly on the water- sites 60, 58, 59 look amazing. Some sites are in shade, others open and on grass. Many sites were a bit un-level, but the setting is fantastic.

There is a tank dump and potable water fill. No electric on any site. It had been raining for many days before we got here and some of the sites were muddy. We have straight talk for cell service and had no problem. Big rigs might have a problem getting to some of the lower sites. This campground is about 7 miles off rt1 and the road is has a few frost heaves.

We did not use the showers but they looked OK and were clean. Also, did not use the pit toilets but they were adequate and clean. Nice, easy to access dump station and drinking water faucets were conveniently placed throughout the park. A nice spot to sit while exploring Maine.

Lamoine State Park has a mix of sunny and shady sites, with the shadier sites located closer to the water. I arrived without a reservation in August 2015 and was able to pick from their first come first served sites. Since these sites are non-reservable, once you are on them you can stay for up to 14 days. These sites are more sunny and seemed to be mostly on a bit of an incline, and were farther away from the water. The park has comfort stations, garbage and recycling and a dump station. The site I chose had no electricity so the sunshine was good for my solar.
There is a pretty loop trail that encircles the campground although it travels alongside the road for a portion, it stays behind a fence. You can also walk down to the ocean at the trailhead and walk along the beach. Up from the beach is a beautiful grassy area with towering trees accessible to everyone - great spot for a picnic or to sit and read in the sun or shade. There is also a boat launch at the park.
Located just north of Mount Desert Island, Lamoine State Park is a good jumping off point to access Acadia National Park. Both the main park area on Mount Desert Island and the Schoodic Penninsula to the east are a short drive away. On Mount Desert Island, there was a free bus shuttle that loops through the park stopping at all the key points of interest. During peak season, it is a very good idea to take advantage of this shuttle as parking can be quite limited near the popular spots.
