Our sewer was somewhat downhill from the trailer connection but some other sites seemed run uphill. We walked the Two Bridges Trail which was okay but nothing special. We drove into Hillsboro to walk around the downtown square which was nice and ate at the Overflow Coffee and Cafe which was quaint and had good sandwiches.

Spent a weekend at Lake Whitney State Park to check out our trailer after getting it out of the shop. I had not been to this park since I was 13 and I am now 62 so a long time. We had reserved our site online but stopped at the visitor center to check in. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We proceeded to the Horseshoe camping loop. We were at site 08 which was a pull through site. Water, 50a,30a electric as well as sewer hook up. The site was very shaded. The asphalt needs resurfacing but is manageable. The site accommodate our 40' tt but just barely. The is a lot to do in the park. There are shelters as well as 2 cabins. Many, many tent sites some with electric and water. There is swimming beach and a boat ramp. Lake Whitney is a popular bass fishing location.
The city of Whitney is 5 minutes form the park if you need fuel or groceries. Hillsboro is about 13 miles to the east if you need more or need a Walmart.
This is a nice place for a get away that is near the DFW metroplex or would be a nice stop over if you are traveling through.

Our site 30 was a challenge for our 34’ 5th wheel due to its narrowness but lots of other large pull-thrus available. Birds singing, nice walking paths, only used restroom/showers once and the shower was dirty and not very private (2 stalls back to back). Local town of Whitney has shopping and a few restaurants. Peaceful place to enjoy a visit with friends.

The only bathroom to a 50 site loop was closed! Awful mosquitos. 5 minutes drive to restroom/showers and one stall closed there as well. For tent camping bathrooms are a necessity! Thankful we only needed to stay one night.

We made reservations 92 days prior to arriving Thursday of the Columbus Day weekend for Horseshoe Loop full-hook-up site, which is a nice elm tree grove. With the Texas State Park Pass, we paid $21/nightly. Our spacious pull-thru site was partially shaded, but there is no vegetation between sites in this loop, so not one site had any privacy from another. Site surface was mostly gravel from deteriorating asphalt. Our site had a deteriorating concrete picnic table on a concrete slab and a fire pit with a grilling grate. There is a possibility that trees make could make site access difficult to deploy slide outs. We witness larger rigs getting creative with pulling into their site because of close trees. Quiet campground with no highway noise. There is no gate closure overnight. This is an excellent dark sky campground, but unfortunately during our stay surrounding campers had excessive outdoor lighting illuminated throughout their site most of the night, which inhibited good star glazing and Draconid meteor shower viewing. Shower/toilet facilities for this loop were clean, but heavily worn and not ADA compliant. Besides a small step into the structure, the women’s had 3 equally sized toilet stalls and 2 equally sized shower stalls neither with any safety grab bars. There are no sites in this loop that are lakefront. A few sites can just see the lake from a distance. Trash dumpsters are placed on roadway edge making safe rig egress tricky. AT&T 1 bar coverage in this campground loop. No wildlife sightings during our 4-night stay. Campfire wood available for sale from “lockers” at the Park Headquarters building. Closest restaurants, fuel stations and grocery stores in Whitney and Hillsboro. Waco is 40 miles southeast.

We stayed here one night on our way to Blanco State Park. The pull throughs on our side of the loop (spaces 1-51) have nothing between our site and the lake but trees. We stayed in #30, full hookups. The space is somewhat unlevel, but it was easy to level ourselves. Long enough to stay hooked up for the night, but we opted to unhook and be level. It's a short walk through the trees to the lake, or pick up the trail close by near #31. There were not many people there, and it was very quiet and peaceful. No road noise at all. It's easy access from I-35, about 2.5 miles out of the town of Whitney. No problem getting here with a 29' fifth wheel. My phone says I have 1-2 bars/AT & T LTE. With my UnlimitedToGo NetGear Blackhawk hotspot, it shows the same. However, it is strong enough to use our Amazon Stick/wifi with our TV and no problems using the internet. The app I use to test my signal for teaching on-line shows my connection is somewhat inconsistent, but seems strong enough most of the time - although I did not attempt to teach while here. Ookla shows a ping of 145mb, download 1.13 Mbps, upload 2.68 Mbps. We would definitely stay here in this loop again. We enjoyed the open space behind the trailer and being close enough to walk down to the water. We did not check out the bathroom facilities.

My site was not near the lake but was a level blacktop pull thru with concrete picnic table, shade trees & a good fire ring with grill. The only wildlife I saw was a large herd for deer (20-30) & birds. Did not check out the bathrooms. Next time I’ll choose a different site because the neighbors are too close.
Very quiet no traffic noise.

We loved site 93 even though it has a slope to it. It has a great view of the lake from anywhere on the site. Nice fishing area close by also where we caught a few largemouth bass. Site 109 is level but smaller and not as good lake access. We were there from Sunday through Tuesday and it was nice and quiet. If we’re ever down this way again we’ll stay again.
