I saw an earlier comment about the park being too small for big rigs but did not find that to be true. It is a small campground but easily accommodates big rigs. The campground was clean and quiet. We will definitely pull in again if we get back this way.

While the campground has a happy vibe, and we enjoyed our stay, it was just far too small…and we have a NoBo 10.6 tiny camper. I don’t know how a larger rig could have possibly fit. We had to use our neighbor’s fire ring because ours posed too much risk to both our camper and our neighbor’s on the other side. We could also hear every neighbor’s conversations word for word, both next to us, behind us, and kiddie corner to us.
Like I said, people were nice and everyone was happy. It was quiet once it got dark, the bathrooms were clean if somewhat dated, and it was 5 minutes from the baseball complex where our son was in a tournament. We just needed a bit more space.

Good place for an overnight stay on the way back home. We made our reservation online and drove straight to the site when we arrived. Sites are decently sized. Camp host was very welcoming. He brought a generous bundle of firewood to our site and City has some work to do keeping the path to the swimming beach clear and keeping the beach itself clean (there were plastic bottles and animal waste on the beach when we were there). There is a playground to keep kids busy and roads are paved so scooters and bikes can be used. We were pleasantly surprised by the free WI-FI (decent connectivity). We would stay here again on our way through South Dakota.

We stayed at the Mitchell Lake Campground for two non-consecutive nights in mid-July. The campground is operated by the City of Mitchell and offers many RV sites with full hook ups and several tent sites with a variety of utilities provided. We did not book ahead/online but relied on the first come, first serve sites; on Mon/Thurs nights, there were many sites still available by evening. One cannot make a reservation with 48-hours of arriving but you can see day-of if there are RV/Tent sites which are available.
We tented and both nights stayed over the hill by the lake in the G tent section. These four campsites offer potable water, close access to the beach trail, trash collection, and wonderful views of the setting sun. There were flat spots throughout the G section (G1-4) and it was easy to place our tent as well as park our car. Our neighbors were within eye site but wasn’t a huge issue. Both nights we also had a nice breeze coming through the site. There are tent sites in other sections which offer electric as well but we didn’t those were as flat.
We met our friendly camp host while filling out the self-registration card at the front. He welcomed us and even stopped by later to make sure that we were getting in well. He also remembered us when we came back two nights later.
The campground offers heated bathroom and showers, as well as a laundry and bike rental. There was also a playground and beach for the families and a little library across from the bath house. We were very happy with just how clean the bathhouse was and how up kept the sites were. The campground is located north of Mitchell and if you’re trying to reach it from I-90, we suggest taking SD 37 north. There are plenty of stores and food places within a short drive. Note that while not in the heart of Mitchell, it is clearly in a city; we heard very light road traffic and an early morning train whistle. Cell reception was very good, each of us getting 4+ bars.
As said, we would definitely come back to the Mitchell Lake Campground the next time we’re in South Dakota. The location is perfect for heading to the Black Hills and the site is comfortable and offers appropriate services.

We have a 41ft class A and there were a few spots we could fit into. We didn't make a reservation but arrived mid week for only 1 night. The host is super friendly and helped us. Very shaded and right on the lake.

Easy drive throughs w camper and very friendly camp host. Wish we could have stayed longer to take the paddle boat out in the lake, there is access to swimming from the campground too. Little town of Mitchell is pretty neat as well.

We were a little nervous staying at a city park but based on the reviews here on Campendium, we went ahead with our stay and we were very happy we did! It is a great campground!
Our sites had a trail behind them that led down to a little beach on the lake and there, my kids fished and all 3 of my boys caught fish. They had a good time in the relatively short stay we had. The campground was clean and although we did not have sewer connections at our sites, there was a dump station that we used. There were also flush toilets and a playground for the kids.
It was a warm 85 degrees and humid that day and got down to the 50's that night but there were barely any bugs yet. We had a very nice experience staying here and would definitely visit Lake Mitchell Campground again.

Second weekend we had a full hook up pull through...both very level with good hook ups. Bathrooms pretty spotless and heated. Very convenient location, checked out the Archeodome, which is a very cool dig site / historic museum a mile away. A bit of road noise at most sites, but nothing intolerable.
