All the sites were clean with a picnic table and fire ring. Although this is your basic state forest issue campground (loop layout, nice trees, lakeside setting} the 5th star is for the blazing fast (100 up/10 down) AT&T. That makes it one of my new favorites. Hanson Hills has great hiking and biking trails and the Grayling Bicycle Turnpike was another great find. Everything you need is available in town.

First night was amazing because there weren’t many people around us. Next 2 nights were louder but still good. We were right on the lake with our own private beach area.

Some interior sites had some boggy standing water areas near them (including 28, which was also right next to one of the 3 sets of decently clean pit toilet outhouses); some boggy area sites were closed. Upon arrival, check the board at entrance for undated site availability, drop payment in post. Bear and cubs walked nearby. One of 4 michigan state forest campgrounds that take reservations. Enclosed pit toilets, water pump, trash bins. The open tent sites were along the lake - short walk to vehicle. Clear lake water, limit fish intake due to PFAS chemical in water from military base, don’t touch white lakeshore foam, say ok to swim. Boat ramp.
