This is a great boondocking spot. Super close to White Sands. Surprisingly busy, we stayed 2 weeks with no problem. It is very dusty and windy and the entrance is pretty tight. And remember you are on a bombing range, expect the occasional BOOM

A little hard to find the driveway and some spots you definitely need more clearance to access. Most of the big RVs stay near the entrance where it is flat. Plenty of waterside spots. We travel with a teardrop and 2019 highlander and were able to drive far enough down with no issues. Great views of the mountains on two sides. Our boys loved seeing the fighter jets fly around while we were here. We filled up waters using the bottle fill station at the visitor center in the Natl Park.

38 ft fifth wheel and thankful for all the reviews that warned us about entering through the gate, having made a right turn off the highway, it was tiiiiight! We parked in the first section and found it to be very level … less so as you go further back. We felt safe here and it was so convenient to White Sands and Almagordo for anything you might need. We dumped at the Chamber of Commerce going N on 54 and it was very convenient with a dumpster on site and water to rinse tanks. Verizon signal was functional and our starlink connection was real good. Not many people running generators, we kept ours to about an hour a day thanks to the mild temps. Beautiful sunsets and starry skies! Highly recommend a stay here!

when you come in you can stay to the right road up by the fence line to go down the lake to see spot on your left.. they are all good. quiet no real road noise..
***ALSO wanted to add.. when coming from west and get toward top of "San Augustin Pass" be in the right lane as there is a neat looking display of stuff in a pull out on the right side. I was in center lane .. there was NOT a sigh i saw about it but sometime traffic get nuts and i am not looking around.. We try to pull over and see the Historical markers , informational stuff when we can..

There is a Chevron gas station 9 miles west on Route 70 near the town with large clean bathroom for morning business if you are in a car if you want to wash up/change or don’t want to use your potty. The coffee there is pretty good.

An awesome place to stay when visiting White Sands. Just a few minutes down the road from the park entrance and a quick drive to stores/gas. We parked right on the waters edge and woke up to an incredible sunrise reflecting off the lake. Quiet at night and about a dozen other campers.

Once past that it’s all good. When we arrived there were others there but plenty of space. I typically like to get drone shot to show condition but being next to the Air Force base it is restricted. The lake is a bit smelly and swimming is not allowed. Perfect location to stop for the night and experience white sands NP

“Gate!”

This is not for big rigs! We have a 41 foot 5th wheel and barely made it. Our friends have a class A pulling a utility trailer. They wiped out one side.

The lake is contaminated with PFAS and New Mexico is attempting to make the Air Force close public access to it:
