One stop on a much longer trip. A little off the freeway, but not way out of the way. It was a Saturday and decent weather for mid March, so it was quite crowded. Young fellow at the entrance kiosk was very friendly, and quite helpful. The site I was on looked good on google earth, and on the map, as it was large and had good space from the neighbors. Unfortunately it had rained recently, and this site had poor drainage and no grass, so it was muddy. The firepit was completely overrun with garbage, like an overflowing can neglected by a janitor for several days. I had not planned on having a fire that night so it wasn't an issue, but I would have been irritated had I been there for several days or planned on having a fire. There really is no excuse for how trashy the site was. Only hooked up the 30 amp, and it worked fine. Not the campground's fault per se, but the atmosphere was hampered by clueless rednecks/weekend warriors with out of control dogs and kids. Guy across from me got there after dark and left his headlights on for the 30 minutes it took for him to shoehorn his house on wheels into a spot more suited for a teardrop. He lit up my neighbor more than me, but this is an issue at more campgrounds than just this one. One guy had a lantern on a pole that must have been several thousand lumens and lit up 6 or 8 other sites like it was high noon on July 4th. Mine wasn't one of them or I would have had a conversation about light discipline/courtesy, although it would most likely have fallen on deaf ears. I did walk a majority of the campground after dark, and closer to the lake was a much different atmosphere. Didn't use the bathrooms or other facilities.

This park has very spacious sites, the ones along the water are beautiful. Nice size fire pits, concrete pad to park your RV, paved roads. Offers nices hiking trails and a trout pond. We stayed here in a 36' 5th wheel with no issue on space in site 39. If we come back this way in Texas, we will stay here again.

We stayed a week in early December at #15 in the Fort Sherman loop. Nicely angled back-in sites with concrete pads. Reservation website says driveway length is 44 ft and our site was JUST long enough for our 27 ft TT and Ford F-150 TV. The site is surrounded by fairly mature oak, sweetgum and hickory trees, with an occasional pine. There was still some fall color when we arrived but continuous heavy leaf fall had most trees bare by the time we left. The sites are nicely separated, so that with summer foliage we would not have been able to see either of the adjoining sites. It was very quiet and peaceful while we were there, with only a half-dozen of the 33 spots occupied at any one time. Those on the lake side of our loop are able to hear traffic sounds from the causeway that crosses the lake when outdoors. Bathrooms, that serve both camping loops, are clean and the showers work well. There is a dump station designated for totes near the bathrooms. There is a Dollar General store about 4 miles from the park entrance. Otherwise, Pittsburg and Winfield are about 8 miles away.

Nice place, typical of East TX state parks. Lots of pine trees. Some sites with lake view/access. Good area for biking on camp roads.

It’s dangerous when your stairs cannot reach the ground. Also they said 30 amp only, but ours was 30/50z

Generally Tx State Parks are well designed and this park is no exception. Great sites. Nice bathrooms . Pretty lake . Decent hiking . Free fishing from shore or pier. Good spacing between sites with concrete pads.

The pad was level, though not sure it could have accommodated anything larger than our 41ft Mesa. Can’t vouch for weekend traffic but while we were there, it was quiet. We hiked the lake cove trail and it was perfect. Like I said, can’t wait to come back and spend more time .

Winston, my corgi and I enjoyed kayaking all afternoon. We then went back, ate dinner, went for an easy hike and had a clean showerhouse to myself. The park is well spaced with several campgrounds and awesome staff. I will definitely be back with my fishing pole. I saw docks, ramp and a playground.
