“Beautiful park, terrible roads! Wooded sites”

Reviewed May 04, 2018

Overall Rating

We stayed for two weeks in April. The park is wooded providing privacy for the sites. Premium sites have a nice large wooden deck. But many of the regular spots are just as nice.
The bath house is clean -- and lots of hot water, at least thru the week. We only used the bath house when park was almost empty during the week. Camp hosts are friendly and helpful.
The roads are terrible! Full of pot holes.
On any following visits our choice of a site would be off from the lake

“Great deck overlooking Lake Bistineau”

Reviewed May 13, 2015

Overall Rating

We camped here in April, 2015 in a 35 foot fifth wheel. The rate shown is for a premium site with a wooden deck overlooking the lake.

We had camped on a previous trip and I had such fond memories of our first visit there I’ve been looking for an excuse to go back. I even made reservations for site 12, the same one we had camped in before. With a wooden deck and a fishing dock right in front of the site, it was a perfect place to chill for a couple of days.

Check in was quick and easy and we had a nice conversation with the same park ranger I remembered from our previous visit. He is probably the nicest and most helpful person we have ever met in any campground, public or private.

Lake Bistineau State Park is located a short drive south of I-20 near Doyline, Louisiana. The sites have paved parking pads with water and electric hook ups, a picnic table, and fire pit. We had a premium site with a wooden deck overlooking the lake. There are several fishing docks located in the campground and one was right in front of our site. The bath house was spotless and there is a small free laundry. The park also has a boat launch. WiFi is available at the office.

We enjoyed watching Egrets and Herons wading along the shore in search of fish, turtles sunning on logs, and tiny frogs hopping around, all right from our campsite!

I would highly recommend this state park to anyone traveling along I-20 looking for a nice, quiet place to camp. We were here during the week and had the campground almost all to ourselves.
