Seemed to be numerous rundown campers here that appeared to be permanent residents. Lots of trash near these units. In my book, this took away much of the appeal of this location. I wouldn't camp here again.

Definitely some people living here, which didn’t really bother us, as we are also fulltime RVers. Can’t beat the price. Water was off due to the cold, but available at the dump. About 20 minutes from major stores, etc. Overall, we’d stay here again if in a pinch. I’m sure it’d be a very different experience in the summer months. Good Verizon cell service.

It appears that the vast majority of campers here are long term or have no other alternatives. In addition, there's a lot of trash left about despite the dumpsters conveniently placed around the camping areas.
We chatted with a maintenance person who confirmed that many of the occupants were indeed living there and moving for a few hours every two weeks to circumvent the rules.
If this doesn't bother you, many of the campsites are on the water and the location is very convenient to Wichita. The observatory is on the north side of the park and open on weekends. There's also a RC plane flying area.
We stayed on a Monday & Tuesday in late August; there were very few spaces available with power. It appears that if you are dry camping, you can camp in a picnic area.

There's supposed to be a stay limit, but there seemed to be several longer term set-ups. Site selection is first-come first-served, and sites get pretty limited on the weekends. If you get lucky, you may get a site with a view of the lake. Great trees and walking/biking paths throughout the park. There are limited sites with 50 amp service. The camp store is stocked with convenient items. Most sites are on gravel or grass areas. The grassy sites are on good solid surface. You're within 30 minutes of Wichita from this park. www.ourepicfieldtrip.com

Pleasant Park Ranger showed us to a spot because it was early November, whichever one we wanted really. Pretty even cement slab. Again, we stayed to sleep and eat but it was easy to navigate and looked so pretty out the window.

This Park offers a wide variety of campsites spread out around the lake. RV camping with electric is $12.00, add a $1.00 for water. Primitive camping available from $8. The Majority of the RV sites are electric only (most 30amp, some 50amp here and there in certain sections (marked with red stripe on the power box). There is only one section (Shelter #5 area) that has water. IMOP, I would skip this section if you have water in your tanks to get you by during your stays. In this area, there is a building in the way of your lake view, most of the sites sloped downhill towards the lake, they were dirt/grass, so they could be muddy, and they crowded a bunch of sites near each other by the water connections. We originally paid for a site here, but decided to find something else after we saw the sites. There is laundry in the office/store.
We camped in Site #54 which is a small loop between Shelters #4 & #5. This area has pretty flat sites in a gravel parking area with a great unobscructed view of the lake. If you have a toy hauler with a porch, or a Class A with a larger front window, you can have an awesome view of the lake. We are in a 42' Toy Hauler with an HDT Truck (semi) (65' total length) and had no issues in this area with our setup. I did have to park the truck next to the trailer so I didn't block the driveway. We camped in mid Oct during the week when it wasn't very busy either, so I'm sure that could play a role if you visit during a busier time, but we only had 3 of us camping in this area.
Another section with large pull through sites is the loop just north of the dam (sites 33-37) in the Cottonwood grove area, even some 50amp sites here. These are pretty flat gravel sites with plenty of room for large motorhomes or 5th wheels. There are a few handicapped sites with concrete here also. Just beyond this area, there are some very large open grass sites near remote airplane field and by shelter #3 where you would have room for the largest rigs. You have plenty of open room in this area to camp.
The little inlet on the north end of the lake seemed to have a good number of 50amp sites (most on the smaller side), but also seemed to have the largest influx of semi permanent campers even though that's not supposed to be allowed? Maybe they just make themselves at home fairly quickly. In this area, there are some very beautiful sites right on the water, but most of these lend themselves to camper vans, small travel trailers, or maybe small class C campers.

“Scary And Rundown ”
noted 6/11/2023
We arrived Friday afternoon, the staff was not helpful and provided no instruction except to grab a spot and come let them know where and pay. Most of the areas were either large groups camping together or run down permanent looking campers. The area seemed unsafe to camp in as we weren’t in a large group and the only spots we found were between broken down trailers with broken windows and eviction signs. We left and found a different spot to overnight quickly.
