The road up the mountain is fine for the most part. Stayed here to visit Pinnacles. The creek passings are the worst. It could be hard to pass others in areas. Had no issues with our 35 foot trailer. Although we didn’t stay at Laguna Mountain, I feel able to review because we stayed four nights at Upper Sweetwater and visited Laguna Mountain. Laguna Mountain was Plan B for this trip. Will be Plan A next time.
There was no one here when we visited on a Monday morning. There could have been someone here over the weekend but I’m confident that it wasn’t full.
The two campgrounds are very similar. Generally this one offers more view and less shade. It also requires driving a couple of miles further (assuming you’re coming in from the West) and a water crossing even when it’s not wet weather.
Site 5 is tent-only and offers a stupendous view.
Just like Upper Sweetwater, bring what you need. There’s nothing available anywhere nearby.

I don’t understand why the reviews are so poor for this campground other then no cell reception (fir about 10 miles) & the crappy / lengthy road to get there. The campground is on a hill giving every site a great view of the valleys on either side.
There is a 10 mile trail(blocked fire road, last 1.5 mile primitive hike) up to Laguna mountain. Also a trail (with a waterfall about 3 miles in) to the other campsite Upper Sweetwater campground. I think it was about an 8.5 loop when I used the road to return. There’s a pretty sketchy looking rope climb down to the bottom if the falls/pool. It’s easier then it looks for adults but prolly not for children or if you have a dog. Another camper said he was going to try to follow the creek up to the falls. Don’t know if he made it. There is a trail but the way walls get pretty steep closer to the top.
Nice quiet area.

This used to be a favorite spot for boondocking. Now it’s too busy and unavailable on weekends.
Save yourself the drive in, or else get there before weekend folks arrive. But no guarantee!!

We decided to boondock here for 1 night in our 41ft 5th wheel RV. Roads were typical California pot hole galore. Had to drive no more than 20 mph due to road conditions and all the turns. Even had to drive some incline. Don’t advise driving here in any type of dark.
No AT&T cell service and No Verizon hotspot service. Had a outhouse and picnic tables at each site.
Still a great spot of you wanted a temporary private spot with no connections.

Pinnacles National Park is close, which I visited. I was going to stay a second night and go back there but needed to head to Fresno for some business and so didn't return. This is a spot I would have loved spending the whole weekend, though. There's also a nearby waterfall and other outdoor activities, which I wasn't there long enough to really experience.
I didn't get any cell reception at all, which would keep me from even attempting it on normal weekdays, needing that for work.
It got a bit warm (visited in July) during the day, but there are nicely covered tables for each spot, providing nice shade. There was some light trash (cigarette butts and two beer cans nearby) left by previous visitors that I found, but overall, it was a mostly clean campsite. At least the one vault toilet located on site was particularly clean for my visit!
All said, it is on my list places to return to for a weekend visit if I am in the area.
