Not legally. And this time of year they are staffed and you drive through a registration area on the road. You need to have a sticker on your vehicle showing you have paid. (You are supposed to pay for the LTVA areas.) You CAN go north on Hwy 95 a few miles to either Hi Jolly or Plomosa and stay for free...but need to register with the campground host. It is quick and easy and you can arrive anytime. Both of those campgrounds (Hi Jolly and Plomosa) are well documented on Campendium. We have stayed at both, frequently, for just an overnight while traveling through and it is easy. Enjoy and safe travels!
