La Palapa is located north of the Malecon and is easily found on Google maps. We arrived on a Thursday to beat the President's Day weekend rush and got two beach-facing spaces. A full-time RVer moved from Victor's to join us, and it was a mix of smaller RVs and Car/Tent campers. Several pull-thru spaces. A very friendly crowd, we gathered together several nights. Two were regular, repeat customers who greeted us with information. (Sam the fish man is a great guy, Vietnam vet, and visits 1-2 weekends a month from LA.). He recommended 'The Sweet Spot' for dinner... he was right... find it and go!
The beach is clean, each Palapa has a concrete floor, light, black water dump, water faucet, electrical outlets. Josephina was there it seemed all the time and check-in was a snap, but cash only. Mario was cleaning, raking, even picking up after random animals on the beach, and hosing things down often. The gates are secured at 10 PM, but you can ask for a key before you leave for re-entry.
We looked at all the camps in this area: Kiki's was full of larger RVs and made the beach hard to reach or see. But it looked nice. At the moment, these are the only two worth visiting in the area.
Everyone within La Palapa observed the 10 PM quiet time. Someone had a party down the beach one night; can't control that... at least the music was good! We had zero complaints. Facilities were 'quaint Mexican' but clean and operational thanks to Mario! Someone loosed their beach dogs, but they were friendly and obeyed a stern 'no!' We will definitely be back... in fact, we will return to San Felipe because of La Palapa!

We stopped here for just one night before heading further south, and glad we chose this spot! Paid $25 USD although we were tent camping so I’m not sure if RVs get charged more. The next door campsite is $40 regardless so this seemed like a good deal. Beach front palapa we’re all taken but all of them had great views. And if you ... more

Beach front palapa we’re all taken but all of them had great views. And if you want to see more beach, just take a walk for about 20 feet.
In the end, we ended up putting our tent on the ground behind our car bc we have two dogs (one elderly and one injured) who had a hard time with the steep stairs, but all worked out perfectly. The platforms are a great spot for a hammock if you’re there for a longer stay.
Hot showers and hot! Bathrooms were clean and well stocked with TP. Plenty of plugs to charge gear and phones. If you have an RV, consider traveling with a surge protector. This place is old and it’s Mexico.
The neighborhood is nice and quiet, and our fellow campers were too. Lots of families with kids. Lots of dogs and cats came around hoping for food.
The beach is somewhat private since it’s blocked on both ends by natural rock features. Only our dog went swimming but he had a great time.

You won't have any privacy, but your neighbors will probably be nice and make you some really tasty shrimp for dinner. Well probably not, but mine did. Wifi was decent, especially if you go near the front of the campground. Shower was nice and hot. Its not my idea of paradise, but its a good first stop if you're coming down into Baja on the Sea of Cortez side. If you stay for longer than 1 night they will give you a cheaper rate too. Telcel service is really good, LTE.

We had already explored the other five or six RV parks in San Felipe, and this one had the perfect combination of waterfront beauty and just rustic enough charm.
"$20 / night if we get multiple nights," the Mish crew tells us.
"Siente dias?" I ask Josephina, the owner of La Palapa RV park.
"Siente?" she replies, sounding somewhat surprised.
"Sí." It's $108 U.S. for the week. Not too shabby.
We each take a palapa, which are typically just little tiki huts that most campgrounds seem to have in Baja.
The electrical plugs look a little sketchy, especially the 30amp hookups. We're in a VW Bus so the 20amp outlets will do. Nothing catches fire. We have power. And water and sewer were we to have needed it.
The sun rises over the water early each morning to greet us and our coffee cups. Stray dogs bark at beach goers. As the week goes on, the place packs up and the five or so beachfront spots get taken up quickly. Great blue herons pick from the sea.
The WiFi hums along during the day, we all work the mornings away without issue. It's about a mile walk to town, along streets where some houses are gorgeous, others dilapidated travel trailers.
We learn a few lessons quickly. Bring your own toilet paper to the baños. Don't flush any of it down. Throw it in the basura. And most of all, enjoy.

The rest are no different other than no view at ground level. All sites comes with a balcony (if you dare climb up there) which is kinda cool if you ask me. Water, power, and sewer at every site although many of the power plugs are burnt out. Bathrooms are what you may expect from Mexico but do the job well enough. [Most] showers are hot (if you get a cold one, get to the next one and it is hot).
