Is this a good place for tent camping? Thinking of going this weekend and wondering if its too busy/no privacy?

Great place for tent camping. You won't have a problem keeping space between you and other campers. You will come to the entrance of the refuge about three miles after you leave the Highway. If you take the road to the left, it will take you into an area that is not easily accessible to most RVs.. If you stay on that road for about a mile or less, there will be turn off to the right that will take you up to the base of the mountains. A great place for only tent campers, because the road requires a vehicle with higher ground clearance than an RV.. Great views

Things have quieted down a lot. There is ATV traffic along the road. You can pitch a tent anywhere on the refuge, your vehicle just has to remain within 100' of the road. It is all disbursed camping and the sites are fairly far apart from each other. Just keep in mind there are no services, pack it in and pack it out. And as someone else mentioned, it has been a windy winter here.

I was there in January and there were a few campers but not busy at all. One of my favorite camping spots in AZ.

There’s lots of space out on Palm Canyon Road! Should be no problem to tent camp. No one will bother you. If you get a chance, go to the end of the gravel road and hike the Palm Canyon trail - it’s about a half mile (I think). You see the native palms up in the canyon. Kinda cool💕

Great camping and plenty of places for a tent, but the issues: 1) It's quite windy on some days; check the forecast. 2) Don't plan on driving any tent stakes into the ground unless they are super heavy duty. The ground is extremely rocky. 3) Bring a good, thick sleeping pad, because of the rocky surface. 4) There are some rodents that will come out at night looking for food/trash so store that in your car.

Yes, a good place to tent camp, sites are well spaced with plenty of privacy. We camped there in February 2020 and it was not crowded.

Great place! Hope you enjoyed it. Have been going there twice a year for 6 years now. Can be windy in the winter.

Haven't been lately, not usually too crowded. Not sure about privacy but you can probably find a bush or two to squat behind. Just mind the cactus. Enjoy, it's lovely there.

You can find spots that are relatively isolated. There was a brisk wind which might be a factor.

Thank you everyone! This weekend's weather looks good so far so hopefully wind wont be an issue. Planning on hiking the palm canyon trail and Signal peak while we are there :)
