Would not want in trailer water storage. We took our jugs to visitor center 16 miles east to refill our water. Cell service very limited/spotty. Could sometimes send text but couldn’t open anything at campground. We found 4 bars at Grand Sable lake overlook so when we went for water, we checked email etc.. there were a pair of loons on the lake. At least 3 ducks and lots of turtles! Bugs were minimal until the morning we left when mosquitoes seem to have hatched, probably because it was still May. There are 16 sites that are not reservable. The whole time we were there the most sites that were occupied were 5. If it was a busy week, there could be some daytime noise from highway across the lake or 4 wheelers on the highway. Had a great time enjoying this campground!

We really like this place, but there are a couple of very tight spots for medium-sized rigs or larger when driving the full loop.
The water from the hand pump is very poor -- no way I'd put it in our rig's tank.
There's an excellent trail to Lake Superior.
AT&T service was acceptable, especially with our booster on.

We enjoyed our stay here so much. A little surprised that it was as full as it was in late September. The phone service is spotty and not reliable in the campground.

Site 2 and there’s one other site at the beginning right next to the lake that would fit a big rig and that’s it. You will have a heart attack trying to drive through here with a large camper and truck. Trust me 😂😅 - Other than that, beautiful place and easily accessible. First come first serve!

County Road H-58 runs between Munising and Grand Marais and provides easy access to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore which has campgrounds of its own. The road in this area used to be sand until about 10 years ago. The road has been since re-engineered to accommodate large and heavy rigs while providing an easy and pleasant drive. There are many State Forest Campgrounds within easy reach of H-58 and I think Kingston Lake is the best that road has to offer. The campground is located on a peninsula of the lake so every site has close access to the shore.
The site I chose was level within two degrees which was remedied by plastic blocks. A windstorm passed through the week before that left many limbs and larger branches that are easy enough to gather to feed the campfire. Water in State Forest Campgrounds is from a well with a hand pump. The water from those wells meets state sanitation standards. Trash containers are present.

This is a very basic campground, but if you are not worried about power or cell service (No Verizon coverage, and I doubt any other carrier would work) it looks to be a great spot. All the spots seem to be nicely laid out, most have lake views and are very shady. There are 2 sets of vault toilets, and I only saw one water station, there is also a boat launch and a hiking trail that connects down to the North Country Trail. I didn't notice any signs on that particular trail, but No Pets are allowed on the NCT (pretty lame since most of the hikes in the area use sections of it to complete loops)
