Stayed here for a baseball tournament. The grounds were nice with lots of room for the kids. Our team had 7 of the 8 sites so noise wasn't a problem (for us). The shower facility was clean and huge. The 3 problems we had, minor ones at that, were that the hook ups are a stretch if you are in right side (posts are shared 1&2,3&4,etc) , there is a fair amount of local traffic due to the boat launch at the end of the road and the dump station was on the right side as you leave. Whapeton was a nice little town. Will definitely stay here again.

“Nice RV campground with plenty tent areas”

Municipal campground just off main stretch of road along river.
$25 for RV (reservation highly recommended).
$10 for tent. Reservation not needed.
Handicap accessible with 1/2 mile paved path along the river.

8 RV spurs with electrical and water hook-ups. RV spurs are close together, but general campground is a nice size. Large area to select from when pitching a tent, so pitching a tent pretty much anytime is possible. However there are only two available fire pits for tents, one close to tent parking area, and another quite a bit further in wooded area. From appearances it looks like there had been many more, but likely a flood took them out to never be replaced. Several picnic tables are available however. Flat, leveled areas conducive to level sleeping are a bit more difficult to locate as most of the tent area is sloped.

Nice updated restrooms with two showers (at least in women's side) and very clean located at the entrance to the campground. Paved path, a nice small walk. Nice view of river with several fishing areas along it's bank. Updated fish cleaning station. Public water access for boat. Photo op with huge catfish statue known as "The Wahpper". Enclosed picnic shelter.

Pitched a tent for a place to spend the night on our way back from visiting friends in ND. Campers were quiet and respectful. A small group of young adults who wanted to party came to hang out in the tent parking lot area about 1 AM and stayed until 3. Loud talking and then moved on. There is road traffic from nearby county highway, visible from campground, but not so much to be disturbing. Very bright light from parking lot shone in the tent area where we pitched. Would not be such a problem further in to the wooded area. It was manageable however.

All RV spots were taken on a Saturday night. One other tent was pitched. Overall I liked the area better then the nearby zoo campground (Chahinkapa) for camping as it was considerably more scenic and spacious. But there is little to do here, and Chahinkapa has many more onsite activities.

Had cellphone service with my Tracfone.
