Kayenta Campground

This is our second stay. We were in site 10, needed our lego blocks to get our camper van close to level. Most of the sites have some slope, fyi. Otherwise campground is great, bathrooms with running water and flush toilets, electric hookup, and a dump station at exit/entrance. No water so tank up beforehand. A short walk to the visitor center which is excellent; cell service a bit better at the visitor center -2-3 bars LTE T-Mobile vs. 1-2 maybe at campsite. Site has a table, awning, and fire pit. Great features are the east and west rim walks, which can be done, from camp, as a loop. Trail is well blazed. Don’t miss the point at dawn; show up 30-60 minutes before sunrise to watch the light transform the canyons. And the night sky can be amazing, clouds willing; it is pretty dark in campground but can go down the trail a bit and hunker down with less stray light from campers. A very sweet location, and only 40 minutes from Moab

No water, no internet, but FIVE STARS of canyon views, desert scenery, Milky Way star-gazing, and the kind of privacy that comes with being 30 miles remote from the nearest town (Moab). Dead Horse Point State Park has Grand Canyon-like overlooks (well, Canyonlands National Park is only several miles down the road). Each campsite has partial hookup (20/30/50 amp), a fantastic shade shelter with aluminum picnic table, fire ring and BBQ. Tidy as a pin; I think the rangers come out with their Zen garden rakes to “correct” all footprints and tire tracks! Seven super clean rooms w/flush toilets & sinks + dedicated dishwashing station —-although as mentioned before- no showers. We made a stop in town at Moab Recreation & Aquatic Center where showers cost $6 at their modern facilities. Nice to plan a stop here after hiking around Arches NP on a 90 degree day!
This park is amazing! Book early; you’ll love it!

I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in site #1, an E only PT site for $52/night with fees included. Sites were all very clean as the camp hosts rake each one when people leave. Site #1 is lovely with a bit of a view over to the canyon. It is pretty private with trees between the rig and the road and no one really close. The picnic area is large and covered with shade from trees and a food storage box if staying there in a tent. Two tent pads are available – one open and one shaded. Roads and site were asphalt and it was easy to navigate. The bathrooms were all individual rooms and were very clean. No showers and no place to fill water tanks in the campground. There is a dump station on the way into Kayenta which is very convenient. It is a beautiful park with great hiking. It is a bit of a drive to Moab and Arches, but very doable. It is also very close to Canyonlands NP which has great hiking and vistas of the canyons. The camp hosts were very attentive and took great care of the place. If you can only do one hike there, I thought the west rim was the more interesting trail to take. I would definitely go back there even though it also feels on the expensive side for what you get. (basic economics in play…supply and demand let them charge more.)

I was lucky enough to get a site here in May, 21. It's been a dream of mine to stay here and I wasn't disappointed. There's no way to accurately describe how otherworldly it is. Especially if you're from the east coast. I was in site 01, easy pull through, very cool shelter, views, and plenty of space and privacy. I have 2 dogs and the hiking trails are amazing, they loved it. Since I was there in early spring the weather was perfect. The town of Moab was incredibly busy, lot's of outdoor enthusiasts. Mile long lines to get into Arches, luckily I went early, 7:30am and drove right in, didn't even have to pay since the office was hadn't opened yet. I hope I get to go back someday.

We stayed here November 23rd through 26th. We had electricity only but it was all we needed after a dumping and filling up on water at the Maverick in Moab. The park is well kept with attendants coming into a site quickly after someone exits to blow off leaves and rake up. The sites are small--we would fit on just a few. Reservations can't be made within 48 hours of the day of your stay. After that, it is first come first serve. We were able to reserve Wednesday and Thursday night but had to get there bright and early to get Tuesday night. We could see the site was available but just couldn't reserve it. The ADA site was all that was available, and it can be reserved by calling if it is not taken 48 hours prior to your reservation. The site is right next to the restroom, which we thought might be annoying but people are so quiet and respectful, it turned out not to be an issue. They main hikes are easily available from Kayenta Campground and Canyonlands was a short drive away. Both Dead Horse Point and Canyonlands were breathtaking.

Cell was sketchy. We got an occasional 2 bars with ATT.

We love staying at Dead Horse. We have stayed in both the Wingate and Kayenta loops and have visited in both August and November. I think Kayenta is more quaint, tighter spots but closer to the rim and wingate is more open with larger more level sites. There is no water anywhere remotely close so be prepared but they do have bathrooms and a dish washing station which is helpful. It is a bit of a drive into town and over to Arches but having partial hookups in this beautiful setting is worth the drive for us. Very convenient to Canyonlands and of course dead horse is worth a day of hiking and sunset watching in itself!

A beautiful and peaceful stay! No service (Tmobile with a random pop up of service basically) but the visitor center is nearby for any emergencies. Our camping neighbors had AT&T and had service the whole time. The walking paths are close too and we hiked the short ones because we have two kids five and under. But if you go to the outlooks make sure you keep those littles hands because there are amazing cliffs. I put my 2.5 year old in a pack to keep her from taking a dive (no railings and straight to the beautiful edge ;)). The sites are well spaced and the night sky was beautiful even with the haze. The mornings and evenings are perfect for hikes. There are covered seating areas with wind/sun blocking panels too. There is a dump station that you can empty on either side. Our stay was perfect! I highly recommend!
