A couple of boondocking spots have views of Mt Hood or Mt Adams & Mt Rainer. May be hard to level though. Our 2 phones and Jetpack only registered 1 bar of Verizon. Maybe we didn't go where the other reviewer got 3 bars. Good 1 lane all weather gravel road access. About 1.6 miles from paved hwy. Most any size rig can access. There is a large parking area 100 yards from the paved hwy 44 that you can drop your rig and take your toad to check out the area. We only visited for the day to see if we wanted to return for several days.

Actually it's called Joe's Point on USFS map. it's a good gravel road, big rig friendly aprox 2 miles North off paved Dufur Valley Rd. You'll come to Lower Eightmile Crossing Campground with a just a few sites, pit toilet, picnic tables and fire pits for $14 a night. But for free camping approx 1 mile past this USFS dispersed campground you'll come to Joe's Point, a wide spot in the road that continues on a sharp dog leg to the left but also two other gravel roads continuing North at the point. Take the one on right, go approx 500' to a big open gravel pit with a road circling around it. Stay on the left side of pit as this is a little better road but either way it'll be ok.
The open meadow is on the back side of pit. There's two sites with rock fire pits big enough for a big rig. Excellent, super fast Verizon internet and a knockout view of Mt Hood. The meadow is higher than the pit so the pit is not visible from sites.
One note: while we were here a person pulled into the gravel pit and did a little target practicing down in the pit but the sound wasn't too bad because it traveled over top of us.This didn't bother us as he was there only about 15 minutes.Target shooting in gravel pits is just a thing that happens sometimes and we realize not everyone is comfortable with that.
