“Large wooded sites, pretty lake with an island”

Camped 7/30/18-8/1/18. I had expected some lakeside sites at this campground, but that wasn't the case. There are two loops that are near the lake with trails to the beach, and two sites with a bit of a view through the trees. A lakeside picnic area is adjacent to the campground (photos show the picnic tables, grill, boat ramp and pier).

Nevertheless, it's a nice campground, and we chose site 9 which had a short trail to the beach. Also the campground was deserted; we had the whole place to ourselves except for a few locals that came to swim at the beach. It was great - quiet and peaceful except for the calls of the loons and Sandhill cranes. We walked our kayaks from our site down to the beach area where we launched to go kayaking (and also left them while not in use). Sandy shores, clear water and exploring the island were fun, and the sunsets over the lake were spectacular.

Sites are large, somewhat sandy, semi-private, and some were grassy. Fire ring w/grate, large picnic table & lantern hook are at each site, and short wood posts mark the back-in area. Each loop had 1 vault toilet and 1 water pump. VTs were smelly and weren't well stocked w/TP; Forest Service truck drove through once, but didn't stop to replenish. Campground was fairly clean and well kept though, and a local told us it had been busy most of the summer.

Barton City is tiny but has a gas station with some supplies and a bar with good food; Lincoln has an Ace Hardware. Lake Huron is a short drive, and we checked out Sturgeon Point Lighthouse, but the museum was only open weekends. You can walk the grounds though, and check out the outside artifacts.
