Overall Rating

We arrived at South Fork State Recreation Area on a Sunday afternoon. After driving through the hookup area, we thought we would have a look on the other side of the lake, where there is dry camping. There were a handful of campers, nearly all of them left by the end of the day.

We liked this campground the best of all of them. You can either back in or pull through, as you wish; but whichever way, you are camped right on the shoreline of a beautiful reservoir with Ruby Mountain views. And unlike the hookup area, you can easily take your paddle board or kayak straight from your rig down to the water. It was very quiet and peaceful.

The fishing was fantastic. Fish were jumping along about dinner time, and my husband through a line in and caught one within 15 minutes. The next day, we kayaked all around the lake. Perfect conditions for the beginning of October. Spring Creek and Elko are only about 20 minutes away for whatever you need.

With our Senior Nevada State Parks pass, we paid $0. For all others, it’s $15 for Nevada residents and $20 per night for out of staters.
