The county park has a lot of kid friendly activities which meant there were a lot of kids on bikes and playing or doing walks which may not be good for all. Our site flooded quite badly in the heavy rain which wasn't ideal but electric, water and sewer were not in the water (though i saw 1 or 2 sites that were). We also backed up to a road in the park that seemed to be where the park kept all their vehicles for maintenance and gardening which meant we had traffic all through the day and this started quite early in the morning.
Staff are very friendly, they have a well stocked store for essentials and the location is great to go see local sites.

This site was wonderful. Very easy to back our airstream in. Beautiful, clean park. Plenty of gorgeous acreage for you (& your pets!). The dog beach was adorable. Highly recommend. Close enough to downtown fun without the traffic.

I would definitely stay at this spot again, great access to Folly Beach as well.
Our site was back in with plenty of room and full hook ups. The camp store had some basic RV accessories which I unfortunately needed. :) We had one truck and 17ft camper and one car with a tent at the same site with plenty of room. There are some bugs so bring your bug spray! They have firewood for sale as well as some snacks. There is laundry and clean showers. The walking trails are really nice and we saw lots of turtles and even a snake!

Great park for biking, walking, water park, proximity to tourist attractions. FHU worked fine. Facilities clean.
Sites are dirt with fire ring and wooden table. Pretty close to neighbor, but long enough for our rig and toad.
Beware wet weather. Some sites have a LOT of standing water when it rains.

Hi all. We split our time in Charleston in between Mt Pleasant and James Island. We really prefer this area. The trails here for running and biking are perfect. Good trees decent privacy. Baths and laundry clean and well maintained. Location is perfect for Folly Beach and close enough to downtown. We ❤️ Charleston!

We loved this campground for so many reasons. We stayed here in November, right before their famous holiday light show. Our site was large and private. Some are "shared sites" so be aware that you could be looking at your neighbors campfire. The office is well stocked and the staff are very friendly. We enjoyed the miles of bike trails, our dog loved the dog park that even has a beach and it is very close to town. Only a 10 minute drive and you are in old town Charleston with all of the sites, restaurants, and shops. The light show is famous and we got to experience it for several nights before it officially opened.

The park has tons of land, ponds, trails and facilities. Ideal for hiking, biking. The xmas illuminations were being set up and tested while we were there. They are magnificent, even if a bit corny. The store is well equipped, and staffed by very nice people. WIFI is pathetic, but rare is the RV park where it is any better. We got 6 TV channels OTA (over the air). One hint for those arriving for the first time. GPS will likely direct you off Folly Road onto Central Park, then turn left at Riverland Dr. That turn is really bad - busy, tight - should have a stop light. You would be smart to go a little further down Folly and take Camp Road. That way you turn right onto Riverland, at a much better intersection.

We had a great experience at the James Island County Park. A quick rundown:
*Very convenient access to Downtown Charleston and Folly Beach! It's about a 15 minute drive and we were able to get Lyfts easily, when needed.
*The staff is SO friendly here. We got some incredible crabbing tips from one of the women at the store, which paid off.
*If you stay here, you must absolutely try to crab off the dock. We caught about 30 crabs (they must be bigger than 5 inches!) and cooked them all on the fire at our site. An incredible experience that we will not forget. You can purchase most of the supplies (including chicken necks) at the campground store.
*There are 4 or 5 bathrooms stalls, as well as showers. All very clean!
*Coin-laundry
*Sites are a decent size and separated by foliage and..palm trees! :)
*We were there during the week so it was very quiet (soooooo nice), but started to fill up Friday morning before the holiday weekend
*We loved renting bikes and riding around the property, it's lovely.

Best dog park I've ever seen - large and small areas, but their own doggie beach and wash up stations afterwards! The nature trails are awesome with many to choose from. Lake for boating, fishing, etc. Excellent camo store, very clean toilet/shower area with outdoor covered laundry. Tons of paved areas for family biking. Kids water park too. A really great place to stay and feel cozy in natural setting and still easily accessible to Charleston history and ammenities.

We stayed for just one night so that we could visit Charleston. The campground is crowded, but there was enough space between sites to have some privacy. The bathroom was new and clean with free showers. We paid a high rate for full hook up, which we didn't need, however, it was the only site available on a Friday evening in mid-April. The park surrounding the camping area looks very nice but we only used the off leash dog park, which was fantastic! It is a large area with a doggie beach and my dog had a blast playing fetch. There are a lot of dogs but it was large enough and there weren't any issues there. We don't have any kids so we didn't use any of the playground or Splash park. The site wasn't meticulously clean and it was muddy after a heavy thunderstorm, but it was good enough. It was very quiet at night. We couldn't hear any traffic and people respected the quiet hours.
