Overview of Isle Royale National Park
Isle Royale National Park is one of the most remote national parks in the lower 48 and the least visited. Accessible only by boat or seaplane, Isle Royale offers a unique rugged camping experience. There are 36 hike-in or paddle-in campsites each with tent sites, water (hand pump), and vault toilets. Cross-country camping is allowed for individuals seeking an even more back-to-nature experience. The island has a population of around 1500 moose so be moose aware and maintain your distance. There is an entry fee to visit the park. For parties of 6 or less, overnight camping is free but requires a permit.
