While there are many campgrounds outside of town, this is one of the very few in town. The staff is great and the place is well kept. We enjoyed walks around the campground as well as along the trail along the bay with several docks to go out on. We were across the street from the zoo and a 10 minute drive to the railroad museum, children's museum, and Canal Park where the ships enter/exit the bay.
Make sure to review your map before arriving. Depending on which direction you're coming from there isn't an exit for the highway the campground is on.
We would definitely consider staying here again on another trip to Duluth. We stayed here in a 30 ft travel trailer.

Very open, little privacy, so not really our style of camping. The showers had no water pressure and were very cramped.

Lots of shade, Canadian Geese and fairly busy over the weekend with warriors, but cleaned out nicely on Sunday afternoon. Showers were okay, definitely not a whole lot of room to hang dry clothes, but on the off days when no one was around I just locked the door to get dressed.
Duluth is a great city - Canal Park is about a 15 minute drive. The paved pathway goes right around the campground, the zoo is across the street, and they rent water craft at the marina a mile south.
