Overall, this campground is very nice but there are some drawbacks. While the sites are mostly separated from each other in/around the huge boulders so it feels very private, be aware that you might have day climbers right next to your campsite (more on that later in this review).
The campground location and views are breathtaking. No services so bring water but there are pit toilets. The sites are small for RV's but we didn't have any problem with our 23' travel trailer. Part of the road is dirt but any car can easily drive it. There was no cell service even with our WeBoost signal booster.
Now, the downsides:
First, there is no way to drive to the rest of the Park without going back out to Hwy 62 and re-entering the Park at either the West (busy) or East (not so busy) entrances. This will add 30-45 mins drive time every time that you want to go visit some other location in the Park. This can make it feel like you're not staying in the park since you will have to commute every time that you want to go somewhere.
Second, and this may be specific to Site #7, the campsite is right next to a day use parking lot which is frequented by climbers. When we arrived, our camp site was being used an adjunct parking lot by the climbers so I had to go track them down to get them to move their vehicles out of the campsite. Now, to be fair, the climbers were VERY nice and cordial about all of this. But the climbers had also set up all of their gear in the campsite on and around the picnic table. Rather than cause any issues, we decided to just let the climbers use our campsite as their base camp for the day. As the morning became mid-day, many of the climbers pitched their folding chairs in the shade of our travel trailer (right next to the trailer) to get some respite from the sun. Again, to avoid any issues, we allowed them to do this which also meant that the climbers continually trekked through our campsite right in front of our trailer to walk to/from the bathrooms. In the evening after the climbers had left for the day, I had to do a walkthru around the picnic table area to pick up trash left behind by the day climbers. Just beware that there are other campground users and you may have to choose how best to peacefully coexist with them.
Overall, despite the beautiful surroundings, we would not stay here again.

Glad we were able to get water for our trailers at the ranger station. Close to Joshua Tree & Twentynine palms. Feels so far away but yet close to town, tucked into the mountains and rocks everywhere. An amazing episode from Carsland. Site 21 fit our 32 ft travel trailer but one downfall was the table and fire pit was further out from our site. I think they could have moved it closer by moving some boulder rocks. Close to the pit bathroom so that’s a plus. Indian cove trail is nearby and Joshua Tree is only 15 mins away for day hiking and sightseeing. This place doesn’t disappoint. Get lost in nature and off the grid for a few. Did I mention stars?

Such a special and beautiful spot, stopped in 29 Palms for beer and ended up having the whole campground to ourselves because it was incredibly hot haha, but one of the most beautiful spots. Highly recommend anytime but the middle of summer unless you want to sweat. Summer is actually off-season and the rates should really be lower then. $25 is a lot for what's available i.e. no water and pit toilets. But great spot!

We were delighted to get a spot on such short notice reserved in Joshua Tree National Park. The campground is amazing. Nestled among the giant boulders. No hook ups, no showers, and pit toilets. But a very well maintained campground. Nice nature trail adjacent to the campground. Our campsite was nice and level but way too close to the campsite to the south. Just our luck that their campfire was just a few feet away from our RV and the wind was blowing their smoke in our direction. Otherwise pretty delightful.

No hookups, no water, no dump station, pit toilets only. But one of our nicest stays. Great separation btw sites here among the massive rocks, creating a kind of private nook for your campsite. Our site had a big pile of brush that looked suspiciously like a pack rat nest, but may have been gathered firewood. Not sure, but we sprayed our peppermint spray around the tires and engine anyway. Total peace and quiet, even if our site was a little eroded and uneven. Come for the sky and rocks. This part of Joshua Tree doesn't actually have any Joshua Trees. Intermittent low Verizon signal.

The campground is technically inside Joshua Tree but you don’t have to pay for a pass to go into the park from this entrance so if you’re not planning to go in you can save some moola.
The campfire ring and picnic table were a short walk from where we could park but not bad — a great site for tents. In fact, it’s more of a tent campsite than anything else. The sites are not great for trailers — ours was uneven and you definitely wouldn’t want to bring a big rig in here. But if you're under 22' it's definitely doable.
Pros
Some cell reception so not nothing like the other campsites in Joshua tree but very limited
Close to hiking/lots of hiking
Very scenic
Quiet
Spaced campsites
Recycling and trash bins available
Cons
Low cell signal
No hookups
No dump station

Busy area with climbers during the day but everyone was friendly and the area had a great vibe. Clean bathroom and well maintained as is the entire campground. This park is super accessible to town and the NP entrance. We will definitely be back I imagine the spring flowers will be incredible.
