Read the reviews and wanted to stay here last week. But, due to a torrential downpour, I didn't dare and continued on to Thousand Trails in Benson, AZ. Today, since it was only 60 miles away I decided to go recon it.
The last cattle guard gate is a tight left turn and the gate is small.
The turn around at the main area is tiny and half of it got pretty messed by the storm.
The area where you could park 3 RV's is now so sandy that your RV would sink.
The trail beyond that is also very loose sand. I kicked on the 4 wheel drive and was still concerned about getting stuck.
I recommend you avoid this location. Shame, because it is a beauty of a spot.

This place rocks! Quiet, roomy, under 20 spots to pull off and camp. Closest neighbor was 500 yards away around the bend. We were in a pull off south of the road and yet could still see the interstate about 4 miles away. Totally quiet except for the birds and nearby cows. We saw road runners, rabbits, chipmunks, a wild bee hive in a tree on a hill, free range cattle roamed the desert, all kinds of song birds and the occasional bird of prey. Be careful in that you are in the desert. There are known to be snakes and scorpions that you could run across. We didn't see any snakes, but I did find two scorpions while overturning some rocks to build a campfire. (They didn't survive the pounding I gave them). The nights are pitch black and full of stars. There is a stream running only 200 feet from our camp site from a fresh water spring nearby. The dirt road is well maintained at least two miles in, but once you go past the J Ranch, you will want a jeep or a high clearance vehicle to go further. Up to where we camped, we had 4G, three bars with Verizon, so I will say there is internet and cell service available here. If you need to refill water, propane or dump, there is Mt. View RV Park in Bowie, (which this site is a part of). It's north of the interstate a mile or two then a left on the main drag in Bowie. Go a mile or two and it should be on the right.

Very nice site before 2nd wash after picnic area. Pit toilet at picnic area nice and clean. Great hiking and climbing. Road dead ends at private home and grading the road with his Jeep keeping it passable. Had rained prior to our arrival and the wash was flowing but most rigs could make it.

there is very little not to like about this location, especially for 14 day boondockers. there is a small parking lot area with picnic tables, two trash cans and a vault toilet (very clean) which is all nestled up agains a hillside of funky rocks which you can climb. cows wander the area and will walk right through your camp and you'll see cowboys ride through several times a week on horses. there is enough room for perhaps 20 small rigs along the nearby road but no larger group sites except near the entry. also, about 100 yards from the entry is a small stream which may be difficult to cross for larger rigs especially after rain or if the road has not been maintained for sometime. I saw a number of vans and smaller class C rigs travel up there. several larger rigs arrived and decided not to cross and left the area. so be prepared if you drive out here to not find any place to park as there is only five spots before the stream. the site was very clean and easy to get to up to the stream. I had mostly good mobile connections with both Sprint and AT&T

This is a great place to boondock, watch sunrises and sunsets, hike and get to know the cattle roaming the area. There are maybe a dozen sites - some larger than others. We tow a 21-foot Winnebago Micro Minnie and had no trouble navigating the main dirt/sand road. However, some of the side roads/access roads were deeply rutted and I would hesitate to take a large trailer or Class A or C down these roads. Definitely hop out and scout the roads before turning down them.
We were lucky enough to get a large site just below the rock formations and parked our rig so our windows faced the west. Gorgeous sunsets every night.

The road into the camp was recently maintained, sand over oiled stone. There are several sites of the main road in right after the entrance marker which are easy to miss. As you continue over the cattle grates into the picnic area there is a covered area with picnic tables, fixed charcoal grills and a bathroom. Just past the picnic area is a campsite large enough to hold 3 medium to large size RV’s. The road after that is not maintained an is rough going, but doable for the adventurous. We took our 34’ Class A slowly to the second dirt road on the left where there was no problem parking or getting the rig level. The real bonus of the park is that in addition to the incredible rock formations, there was live stock free roaming the area. We saw 3 white horses and lots of cattle on the roadway in. Woke up the first morning to find cattle grazing in the desert all around us. They continued to grace us with their presence throughout our stay. This was by far one of our favorite disbursed camping sites.

Spent three wonderful days here in our 30’ class a. Room for four or five big busses close to the entrance and a few spots deeper in if you’re a bit more brave taking your bus off road a bit further. Highly recommend this spot.

What a beautiful area to spend a few days.
The road to get to the entrance is dirt for 3 miles, but very smooth and easy to drive on.
Once you enter the Recreation area, the road changes to a single lane. There were two very small creeks that we had to pass due to the recent snowfall (less than 2 inches deep and no problem) and well as one small hill that required us to drive off to one side of the road.
BE AWARE: Once you start down the single lane road, there are very few places to turn around if you need to.
There is a large area to the left just after the entrance to set up camp if you don't want to risk it.
We spent two nights here, and absolutely loved it. Amazing sunrise/sunsets. Warm weather (60's in February). And we even had a herd of steer pass by one night!
Decent AT&T cell service the whole time.
