“Ok spot to sleep for the night”

Reviewed Feb 15, 2017

Overall Rating

This wasn't the best picnic area we have passed to sleep. It is a road that parallels the highway for about a mile with 2 turnouts on it.

If you do stay here I recommend stopping at the first turn out if there is room, otherwise the semi's are hauling ass to get up speed before getting back on the highway. So needless to say it wasn't very quiet.

On a plus side you still get decent cell reception here, and it is a close spot to sleep if you want to explore the San Antonio Missions. Which is a fun day if you bike the River Walk to them. There is also a big grass area to walk the dog and stretch your legs a bit.

“Basic Over Night Parking”

Overall Rating

Nothing more than a picnic area on southbound I-37. But we've spent the night there 10+ times as we've traveled to the Gulf Coast. It's not perfectly level except in a few places, but it's close enough in a lot of places. Especially when you're tired. And the semis use it as a overnight stop.

You can overnight in all Texas Rest & Picnic Areas. We like this one for sleeping because it's not as brightly lit as the newer rest areas. Some people would worry about safety, but it seems to be a safe place to stop as the State Troopers and Sheriff roll through a few times a night.
