Hi everyone! Is there a specific route to get here? Which exit to take for rigs over 40’? Please help.
MNDFULLTIMERS asked on 5/11/2022
We have a 49 ft rig. Would this be a problem for the Hurricane Cliffs Campsites?

We camped at one of the first sites because the furthest one was taken but the view was gorgeous. There was a decent amount of traffic on Sheep bridge road in the afternoon but nothing annoying. Go for it. It's so close to Zion.

We drove up a good dirt road for about a mile to a very private spot with a 360 view. It was off just a bit from the main road off a secondary road with our back to the main road. We could barely see the next site down the road and could not hear them at all.
Nice views almost all around, but for a couple of rock piles, as there is a community pit managed by the BLM up the road a ways. We also collected some trash from around the site, not surprising since there had been a mountain biking event a few days prior.
This is great mountain biking territory though we spent our time visiting the park and getting some RV repairs. There is lots of room to walk doggies.
The location is about 20 minutes from Zion and about 15 minutes from the town of Hurricane, grocery shopping and other conveniences.
We had good strong signal, since we were at a high point, but most of the area below us and down to the main road had no service, including on the way to Hurricane.

If you’re in the Hurricane/Virgin, UT area to mountain bike or visit Zion National Park then this is the place to boondock. We were 17 miles from our boondocking site to the main entrance of Zion National Park in Springdale. Sheep Bridge Rd. also is home to the Hurricane Cliffs mountain bike trail system. This means we were able to ride from our front doors onto the trails. Other mountain bike trail systems in the area are all close by, making this a good central hub. Don’t worry if you don’t bike - mountain biking trails also equals hiking trails.
Towards the entrance of Sheep Bridge Rd. is Falls Park. Check it out if you want access to the Virgin River to play in (not a good put-in for kayaks or canoes). You’ll want to visit Sand Hollow State Park and Quail Creek State Park (state park fees required) in Hurricane for boating activities.
The town of La Verkin is right down the road with a dump station and free water at the Maverick gas station and a Davis grocery store (recycling available here). Hurricane is a few more miles further south and has a library, laundromat, hardware store, and a great bike shop – Over the Edge Sports. Wi-Fi speeds in Hurricane are uniformly pathetic, no matter where you connect. Stick to your cell data. St. George, the second largest city in Utah (but doesn’t feel like it) is about 30 minutes away and has everything else you may need.
There are a bunch of boondocking sites available along Sheep Bridge Rd., depending on your rig set up and size. As Watsons Wander mentioned, some pull off spots are actually trailheads so you don’t want to stay there. The area tends to get more crowded on the weekends, but we haven’t seen it get annoyingly so. Also, there’s a lot of cryptobiotic soil in the area. Please make sure you park where other rigs have parked and pay attention to where you walk and drive. Read the "Response to Disturbance" section http://www.soilcrust.org/crust101.htm to learn why we should be careful when it comes to cryptobiotic soil.

This is an excellent place to stay if you want to be close to Zion without staying inside the crowded park. As a bonus it's not only free and gorgeous, but right next to a really fun network of mountain biking trails.
Also, the town of Hurricane, where you can find several laundromats, grocery stores, and a nice library, is a quick 15 minute drive.
There are probably half a dozen RV suitable sites on Sheep Bridge Rd. While the road is dirt it was in relatively good condition when we visited and there are a number of places to turn around should you need to. The exact coordinates of our site were: 37.198038, -113.218369. Here you will find a short road with a turn around at the end and a nice parking spot on the side.
The other sites on the road varied from simple pull-offs to short roads with spots for multiple vehicles. Just be aware that this is a very popular mountain biking area and some of the pull-offs are trailheads. While there are no rules against camping there, you will definitely have lots of company, especially on the weekend.
The only negative to this area is the trash. We collected a massive pile of shot gun shells, multiple cans and bottles and even a large broken mirror. It's always disappointing to see people disrespecting our public lands.
Our reported cell service is with a booster, but even without we go a strong and speedy signal.
