“Good but very busy”

This is a love-it or hate-it forest service campground. It’s quiet during the week, but packed during summer weekends. There’s only a couple spots big enough for larger RV’s, and backing into them can be challenge. Most of the campsites are very close together. Black bears are active in the area, but seem to avoid the campground when it’s busy. There is an on-site garbage dumpster. The water from the well smells strongly of rust, but it works. The new camping rate is $17, which I consider high considering dispersed camping is free in the area and the only service you get is garbage. The gravel road is often washboards. Did I mention that it’s packed during weekends?

You may think by now that I dislike this campground. I actually really like it if I can go during the weekday and get one of the better spots. It’s far enough into the forest and cell coverage is spotty, so it feels like you’re camping without having to go all the way “up north”. Social people will enjoy the weekend crowd for tubing.

The hidden gem is the carry-in tent sites. You get private campsites right along the river that aren’t too far from pit toilets. I would love them if I still camped in a tent.

Beware of deer ticks! You’ve been warned.
