“Ugly RV park, but tenting spots are nice”

It looks like the RV park was just blasted out of the hillside, so it's very barren, just nasty gravel on the ground with some rustic fences decorating the perimeter and separating the very narrow (20') RV sites. It felt to us like we were camping in rock quarry. If you're lucky, the wind will stop blowing. It's a fairly steep (9 miles?) uphill climb to get to the park, but big rigs can do it. The mountain views are nice...lots of rock formations. Also hiking trails, mostly steep. It is extremely quiet at night and no lights to distract from star-gazing. We took a walk around the tent and cabin campgrounds, and they are much more natural, with interesting trees and huge boulders. If you have a smaller RV (don't know the exact size limit), you can go to the Pioneer RV section of the park....we saw the steep road leading to it, but never got to the place itself. We did see deer and elk, right in the campground. If you are part of the off-road vehicle culture, you'll love this place, as there are several "roads" for this activity. The ranger station has a beautiful stuffed black bear next to the fireplace. We would not return here because of the negative things cited here, but I put some positive stuff too, as it may appeal to others.
