Overall Rating

I was here in November, and technically the CG was closed. However, I stopped in at the Feather River Ranger station - they said it was okay to disperse camp inside the CG, at no charge! Nice! Well, I was the only one there. Even though it was really warm for November, it got to 26 at night - probably why I was the only one there! But, enduring the cold nights (it was in the mid 60's during the day) was worth it. I was the only one on the lake, and caught fish every day. The hiking trail around the lake is superb. We hiked up to the top of Bald Mountain, and even though it was a pretty easy 1.5 mile hike (each way), it was very rewarding.

I am not sure what the normal cost is, nor how many sites there are in the CG. The Feather River Ranger's number is (530) 534-6500.

It is also along the PCT, and there was an emergency warming hut on site.

Getting there in my 24' Class C was okay, but it was a single lane road with some bumps and potholes, but not too bad.
