I imagine most gentle readers would take a look at this place and keep going. I wasn't even sure it was an RV park when I first arrived. But then way in the back past the piles of junk, short buses, dozens of blue barrels, old farm equipment, buildings in all states of disrepair, there were trailers. Think hunting camp to get a general picture. BUT for me, the bonus was the proximity to the Two Rivers Mountain Bike Park about 10 minutes away (one of the nicest bike parks I've come across and worth every indignity of the RV park).
The owners were nice, didn't make me feel like I was intruding even though I was clearly an outsider. The store was exceedingly well-stocked. Everything was labeled with a price yet their register had a bar scanner. My stay was also in their computer system so they were running a real business here. As for the hookups, while about as basic as they get, they worked fine. Their little flyer states "Our campground is simple, but neat"...simple yes, but neat? If you look past all the dog piles the view was pretty being right on the rugged banks of the James River. It is primarily a favorite hangout for locals during the river floating season. I'm sure the place is packed if the river is running. Right now it was exceedingly low so there was no action other than one confederate flag waving in the wind on a distant trailer.
There was no cellular signal to speak of other than an intermittent single bar of LTE on my T-Mobile phone. Boosters and MIMO did nothing. The park internet worked sporadically - it was fine when it was connected but dropped frequently. I'd see no reason to come here but I was grateful for its proximity to the bike park. Its in the middle of nowhere and most of the roads leading to it are narrow, winding and hilly.
