“large, weedy gravel campground”

This campground is not identified by name on the highway; there is just a camping symbol on a sign. It's up a winding road a short way off the highway, so it's somewhat shielded from highway noise by distance and thick forest. No one here when I passed through, mid-day, mid-week. It's located in thick forest, but the camp area itself is basically a large field, very weedy gravel. Very exposed to sun and other campers, no trees or brush to screen you from other campers. Fire ring and picnic tables at the sites; vault toilets. I think most trailers could fit. Sites seem fairly level. There is a trail to hoodoos a short way up the road. I didn't find the CG to be appealing but if you like open space or just need a site for a night, it might be ok.

“Kicking Horse and Overflow Were Full”

It is flat and level. The sites are close together but you can fit any sized rig here. Or at least you can if you can if you are one of the first people in the campground in the afternoon.

No potable water. There is a pit toilet, tables and fire rings.

About half an hour to Lake Louise.

You can hear the road noise as well as the campers next to you INSIDE their camper bc the sites are so close together.

“Updating the Prior Post”

noted 7/25/2023

We didn’t stay here but had planned to as a backup option if we couldn’t get into Kicking Horse or Monarch at the top of the pass. I stopped in to check it out after hiking out to Wapta Falls. I have to agree that it’s a tolerable but short term type place to stay. It had been oppressively HOT for nearly a week in the Golden area, and this completely open campground would have been an oven. Thankfully we were camped at Waitabit Creek boondocking campground near Donald, a very fine place on a river.

There is trash and recycling at Hoodoo Creek. That’s about the only amenity for your $15/nt. There was only one tent camper in the campground when I drove through.

I wouldn’t plan on an extended stay here. I forgot to check cell service; however, you’d have excellent exposure for STARLINK.
