Holmes Camping Area

I thought this was a great spot to hang out and set up for a few days. It’s primarily used for OHVs so it’s a little noisy with engines during the day and can be a little dusty if it’s busy or someone drives quickly near camp. The cell phone service wad also spotty here at best, I could text but not call if I stood in the right places- a booster would be good. Once you get past that it’s a wonderful free campground! The showers run on quarters, 50¢/2 minutes and they have good water pressure/temperature; the change machine was out of order so bring quarters with you. The road in wasn’t bad, dirt and rough but no big pot holes or terrible washer-boarding. Each spot has a sun shelter and fire ring, which is amazing at night under the blanket of stars that’s visible here. It gets busy on the weekends- but don’t worry, people tend to park in open spots out of the way when no official sites are open. The OHVs were fun for my dog to watch and they quieted down soon after dark most nights, I’d definitely stay again! Also, it’s a relatively safe park as I saw the rangers come through multiple times every day, they also stopped by to clean the bathrooms twice while I was there!

Great spot in the Ocotillo Wells SVRA! Roads coming in were gravel/dirt but not washboard and OK in our 79 camper van. Clean toilets, showers, nice sites with trees and fire pits. There are lots of spots and it wasn’t busy so we had a lot of space to ourselves. We were there during the week so there weren’t a lot of OHVs making noise but maybe it can get loud/dusty on weekends. There is a small air field nearby and there were some planes flying maneuvers overhead which may bother some people but we thought it was pretty cool! Didn’t have any T-Mobile service until near the main road or up on hills.
