We liked it because WSNP was only 10 minutes away and the town Cloudcroft was only 30 minutes away, both have excellent hiking if that’s your thing.
We came in the first time through West gate by mistake. They let us through because of our 37 foot trailer. But the rest of the time we had to use the main gate. It’s way easier to navigate a big rig coming through the west gate!

Nice campground. Most sites are full with long term. Few sites turn daily. Most are pull through. If you are using DAV without a retired ID go to the main gate to get your pass. It’s a tight S to main gate slow and easy with a bigger rig. West gate is easy in and out once you have a pass.

We arrived late and all the spaces were full so we went into the overflow area. There are no reservations at this FamCamp, but there was plenty of space in overflow. I went to the office to pay for the spot, but since we were late, they were closed. I grabbed an envelope, filled out the form and put in a check. $3/day for overflow. $20/day for a regular spot. $100/week for a regular spot. We didn't do so bad except that we came in during a cold spell and ended up spending the savings on propane to stay warm that week.
One set of washer and dryers in the laundry room that were free. Water and dump were free and available on site. We used the shower which was clean and free.
We came in on the weekend which meant that the contractor/large vehicle gate was closed. We parked at the visitor's center and walked up to the guards at the gate and asked if we could use the right lane for entry (wider for our 40' fifth wheel). It was barricaded, but they said go ahead and they would remove the barrier. We were fine going through the right lane upon approach and it was a little tight width and height wise at the gate, but made it just fine. Just have to ask.
Do NOT attempt going in through the left lanes with a big RV!
Starlink gave us 18 down and 12 up. Verizon and AT&T were both 5 bars with our cell antenna. Verizon was 4 bars on the phone.

Beautiful view of the mountains
Only one bathroom and shower which wasn’t a deal breaker for our stay.
Definitely try to go through the truck gate.
The main gate is a tight squeeze.
Close proximity to White Sands National Park.
The famcamp is right up against 70 so there is a little bit of noise.

I have stayed on bases many times before, this one is a bit steep of a price based on the limited amenities.
The have small washers a dryers at a $1 each load, and people tend to leave their stuff in them for hours before picking them up.
Many people were snobby and not friendly at all, and sites are full of broken down cars, crap and people park everywhere.
Speeding is a thing in this park, and everyone seem to be ok with it. We almost got ran over by a red truck and a guy who’s driving his truck and trailer while looking at his phone in his laps.
Needless to say, this place does not hold my expectations of the Military enforcement of regulations.
If you get to base when the truck gate is closed, you’re going to encounter a very difficult entry due to the access denial barriers on the main gate, we had to take it very slow to maneuver the 5th wheel through.
Bathrooms are dirty, and doesn’t seem that they get cleaned often. People shave and leave the hair in the sinks without cleaning it, mold is on the corners of the showers and hand wash soap was empty.
