Stayed 3 nights Friday to Monday. Very scenic campground. Water spigots throughout campground and at dump station. Definitely one we will return to. Easy access from I 40. Super quiet even when almost full on Saturday.

Elevation of 4400 keeps it alot cooler than Amboy, CA. There are nearby hiking trail access from campground. A NPS Visitor center nearby you can hike to. Plenty of dirt roads to drive or ride bikes on. Mitchell Caverns are nearby and a nice day trip if you can get a reservation for a tour. We always enjoy our time here.

We enjoyed the wonderful desert trails in the area. The visitors center is nice and the people working there were great.
The campground was full by Saturday afternoon so don’t count on getting a spot if you get in late on a weekend.

I decided to go after seeing a Instagram post and glad I did. An absolutely beautiful place. A very nice, clean campground with almost every spot level. The visitor center was very close and staff friendly and helpful. There were both short and long hikes available with the ring trail a must see.

I've seen the turn off for Hole-in-the-Wall and Mitchell Caverns for years. So glad we finally turned off the Interstate 40 and camped here. The Essex road is paved up to just past the campground. Then its closed with barricades. I'm guessing because of winter rains damage. Weekends are full, really busy and a bit noisy in the evenings at the campground , but come Sunday all the loud ones leave and there's only a scattering of campers left. So I recommend coming here Sunday-Thursday. Its a beautiful, stark desert area you will enjoy if you like such things, and we do!
Great weather in April, a tad windy but thats expected in springtime in the desert. Bring all the supplies you'll need for your stay as there are no stores or gas for a long ways. We will be back for this rustic camping experience for sure.

This was a great campground. Was not over crowded while we were there. Site 27 was level and easy to back into. Park Service was nice. Hikes from the campground ranged from unique to moderate trails.

I drove through the campground and there were a few sights. Decided to check out the dispersed camping in Wild Horse Road. The first site was available and right near the Rings Trail. Very nice. Lots of hikers walked by during the day then very quiet at night. The Rings Trail is worth the hike - a 1 mile loop.
