We are a 40’ Class A towing a small car. We were assigned a spot with no chance of leveling the coach side to side. Most of the 50 amp spots are on a gentle hill with the spots being diagonal or 90 degrees to the washed out access road. We tried two more spots and could not get level. We finally had to settle for a spot way in the back corner of the park that was “back in” and 30 amp. Got in the spot and leveled up with no problem. Got hooked to 30 amp and the breaker popped. Retried it and it held. Electrical Load indicator on the coach showed 18 amps being used. The breaker feels loose and worn out.
Tried to hook up the sewer and found it broken off. The camp management said it would be fixed the next day.
We then tried to get the WiFi signal and were informed that the signal probably could not be received where we were parked.
At $83.00 per night you would think that the maintenance would be better. I can see where they have leveled many of the spots in the past, but they are way overdue for a leveling scrape and new gravel.

Not quite sure how we got lucky but let’s blame COVID, because our stay here was peaceful, quiet, and we enjoyed Higgins Lake! We have auto-levelers so our site was easy to level off. It was Memorial weekend and no loud parties or any disturbances. Fantastic AT&T speeds too! 30mps minimum for us. We fulltime/work so that’s key.
KFann would stay here again

We stopped here overnight on the way to the UP. Its main attraction is that it has full hookups for $47 a night and was only two miles from the freeway.
We actually stayed twice, once on the way out and once on the way back. Sites 69 and 73 respectively. The whole park is basically dirt, with the exception of a few paved areas on the roads. The first site we manged to get level side to side by just moving back and forth a few times, but we were almost 10" off front to back, but that at least was fairly easy to compensate for. The return trip, the best I could do was 3.5" side to side, my Anderson leveler managed to compensate for it, and we were only off 7" front to back.
The faucet on the first site I had to use a wrench to turn it on and off. The second site the electrical panel, the 30 amp plug and the breakers weren't secured very well to the panel. If an electrical inspector saw it he would have fits.
The bathrooms were old, and quite frankly not very clean. There was black spots on a fair number of the surfaces. You could see where shoddy repairs had been made. Only good part is lots of hot water.
The campers are pretty close to each other with nothing separating them. There is good tree coverage though. But the campground is pretty noisy. Both times there were good size parties going on until around 11 PM. This looks like a campground where friends all meet up. There were a lot of boats and ATVs around, likely because of the lake just down the road.
The people running the place often didn't seem to know much. The store doesn't carry much other than hand dipped ice cream and some trinkets. We went to get some milk and two out of the three bottles they had were expired.

Just finished up what will be our last stay in a KOA campground. We chose KOA from a myriad of other options, believing it to be a family friendly environment. We rented a kozy cabin for the week of July 29 - August 4, 2018. We are surrounded by long term RV campers. The men leave for work every morning and when they return, the party starts. It was impossible for us to enjoy our campfire listening to the loud party, non stop profanity and trying not to see the men urinating in broad daylight. The RV beside us is using their truck bed as a garbage dump, which smells and is just ugly to look at.
The website photos were very misleading, making the cabins appear to be more private settings. Some are private, but unfortunately we were stuck in this awful location.
The state park campground right on the lake looked much nicer. Houghton Lake had many cottage rental options also.

Surprising for a KOA, we expected more. This KOA has no pool, no lake, lots are terribly unlevel, grounds were not kept up. Save your money and pay less at the State Park 3 miles down the road.
