We have camped here several times and ever time it just gets better and better. We LOVE this campground. It has so much to do for our kids (2yrs and 4yrs) and is so clean and well laid out. This time my husband bought some tubes from dollar general right up the road and we drove over to the put-in near the public area of the state park and floated an hour to the take-out point at the campground and then he would ride his bike (5minutes) up the road and load up the truck and come back and we would do it again! Amazing! So much fun, easy river float, and safe for our small kiddos. We love the site 1 and 52 because they are super close to the nature playground and the camp store where our kids love to hang out. We can just pull up a chair and watch them play and drive their power wheels to see the birds in the aviary. This place has activities on weekends for the kids and a hay ride that goes around the campground. I seriously think this is the best campground we have ever visited and we have been all over the east/southeast. We love it and will keep coming back. We are 20 min from my work and 60 min from home so it makes it a prime destination for us. We also love the little town of chapel hill and their Mexican restaurants, Sonic, and country diner to dine at if we don’t want to fuss with dinner. When the state park finishes it renovations it will even be better to eat at the restaurant. Oh! We even did the splash pad/playground today and on this 97 degree summer day the kids had a blast!! Love it! Keep it up Henry Hornton!
Wifi was good. I could even work from “home”

We did not take advantage of the golf course or other "civilized" activities but very much enjoyed to extensive trail system which contains lots of sinkholes and other interesting aspects. Do NOT miss the trails, particularly the Upper Ridge trail.
They have wi-fi but I can't recommend it. Very weak and only useful for email. Plus it shuts down at night. Broadcast (OTA) TV is very limited as well. We used a Verizon hotspot from a phone to run our Roku TV.
Too bad the restaurant is not open. Looks like the new one is at least a month from opening.
Bottom line is that it's a great park for hiking and also paddling the Duck River.

The campground loops are wooded and rolling. Most of the asphalt parking pads are short. Sites tend to follow the terrain so few of them are truly level. #44 wasn't too bad. Sites have electricity, water, a table, and a fire ring. Two restroom buildings have showers and flush toilets. Sanitary dump stations are available.
The washrooms were generally clean but they have allowed grime to accumulate on out of the way surfaces such as the back shelves on the toilets.
Wi-Fi was available but the signal was fairly weak. Cell service strength was not great either.
Tent only sites are along the raised bank of the Duck River.

Very large and clean sites. 14 primitive is the best for a van IMO. The camper sites seemed pretty packed in.

Beautiful camp ground and great trails. The playground is really nice too. No full hookups. But lots of beautiful trees. We were there in February and it was mostly empty during the week. Not full on the weekend, but busier. Very peaceful. Big playgrounds and pool across the highway in the main park area.

The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with hand soap, and during the sparsely populated weekdays it was easy to avoid other campers for the most part to social distance.
The campground did have WiFi, surprisingly, which allowed me to check email etc occasionally; they do specifically state it is not to be used for streaming or other high-filesize usage.
Also the hiking was great — good well marked trails and easy access to them from the camping loop.

My site was level but the sites were packed. Once the park closes there’s no gate and pretty much anyone can get in without being noticed. The bathrooms were not clean at all. The wildlife in the morning was amazing around the place. It was just one night and I didn’t get to meet the staff so I don’t know what they are like. They do have WiFi which was a plus! The benefits- level lot WiFi. Downsides - Sites close together, bathhouses filthy, no security. I probably won’t stay there again.

I had plenty of cell phone service there with ATT.
The dump station was very easy to use.
There were quite a few people there for winter time.
