“Mediocre State Park ”

Reviewed 8/24/2023

Days stayed: 3
Site Number: 45
Overall Rating

Booked a day in advance.
Site 45 - 22ft TT. Leveling required. Good sized sites.
Shower house was good.
Toilets near our site was clean and well maintained
Little bits of trash all over
Sites aren’t swept or checked between reservations.
Beach area was looking rough. Likely due to understaffing.
The campground is showing its age overall.
Good location for exploring Lake George, Bolton Landing and the Adirondacks.
Dump Station was out of service with no plans to repair. We were offered to visit the other nearby campground to dump. We opted to dump at our next destination.
Poison Ivy throughout campground but they do have signs.
Nice fire pits.
A truck comes by at least once a day with wood for sale.
Surprised to pay same price as another State Park with electric.

“Older Park, Better for Tents & Very Small RVs”

Reviewed 7/29/2016

Nightly rate: $30

Overall Rating

We booked here to stay with friends visiting family in the area. The campground really isn't well suited to larger RVs. There's only a handful that can fit them in, and we were quite fortunate that the one we selected (site 87) was also fairly easy to get into.

The campground is split in half by Highway 9 running right through it. The checkin kiosk is right on the highway, and you need to stop BEFORE the kiosk in the shoulder to check in (there are no signs warning you of this!). If you pull into the campground, you are suddenly on a pretty steep incline blocking the entrance.. and if your site is on the opposite side of the road, you have a tricky exit to make.

The entire campground is on a steep slant heading down to the lake, and hardly any sites have a lake view. Most sites are very small and can only fit small RVs and tents. For larger RVs, we wouldn't recommend booking a site more than one row away from highway 9 on either side if you want to avoid the inclines.

Even then, expect your site to be fairly unlevel and possibly needing careful maneuvering to get into it. Once in, there are no electric hook-ups, and as the campground is nicely shaded - it's not ideal for solar. Our site was one of the only ones to get about 3 hours of sun during the day. Generator hours are in the morning and late afternoon (and as most your neighbors are tenters, it's awkward to run.)

There's also not much to do right in the campground - with the inclines, walking is on the challenging side, and there are no trails. Highway 9 is busy as well, creating a bit of road noise.

About the only plus is that the trolly going into Lake George runs every 30minutes and only costs a buck each way. However, if highly touristy towns aren't your thing, then that's not much of an advantage.

We'll be avoiding this one in the future.
