This gorgeous Corps of Engineers campground sits right on Strom Thurmond Lake near McCormick, SC. The sites are huge, very private and all are on the water. It has a Boat ramp too. Site 8 looked especially nice. Definitely would stay here again. Highly recommend!

This is the smallest COE campground we have stayed at. It was very clean and well maintained. The hosts were friendly and helpful. The sites were well spread out. The campground is nicely laid out with lots of space between each site. Some are pull through, so require back in, but most are accessible for about 35' RV. Almost every spot has plenty of shade, elec, water, fire pit, picnic table etc. Also very quiet when I stayed in early May 2021. Verizon was 1-2 bars. Data very slow, but text ... more

Verizon was 1-2 bars. Data very slow, but text and calls were possible from the picnic table at site #5. Great views of the lake and also a short path to get to the lake shore. No bugs yet, but could be an issue later in the year.
The main activity here is boating. There are no hiking trails around, but waking on the paved streets was fine. Great camp hosts and clean restrooms/showers.
My rate of $14/nt was due to discount with lifetime pass.

If you need cell-data, check your spot out carefully. We have various accessories (WeBoost etc) and that made Visible mostly usable. I have never seen such spacious nicely maintained sites. This place is a delight, and my preference is always Army Corp if Engineers as they are not like parking lots, but this takes the cake. Lovely sites, lovely setting. Note. We did not use the showers/ablution facilities- so cannot comment on their state

This was our first trip to this Corp Campground on Lake Strom Thurmond. Currently it is being maintained by volunteers and they are doing an excellent job. Every one of the 34 campsites is carefully placed on the lake shore. There is a boat launch within the park. Scenery was beautiful, birds plentiful and we heard that the fishing is great. Although it is touted as remote, we did not find it "rustic". The campsites had a fire ring, a picnic table and an extra table at about counter height which was quite convenient. The volunteer host was very friendly and checked out the sites at least twice daily. Highly recommend if you want a quieter place to camp - it is not a resort type campground.
