Harbine Park Campground

Clean, safe small town nice.

My wife and I stumbled on this campground while looking for a couple of other small-town campgrounds in the same part of Nebraska. We spent one night here on our way home to East Tennessee toward the end of a three-month trip to Hyder, Alaska, Vancouver, British Columbia, Whidbey Island, Washington, and Badlands National Park.

At $10 a night for full hookups with 50 amp service it was all we needed. The park is just a block off Nebraska Route 14, the main street through Nelson, and we were the only campers there on a mid-summer weekend. The information sign directed us to pay through the mail slot at city hall, which turned out to be about a quarter mile away. Because the sites are all back-in sites, I had to take the toad off anyway, so that wasn't too much of an inconvenience.

The only other park visitors were three teens goofing around on the playground equipment for a few minutes. Otherwise, we had the whole park to ourselves. Judging from the leaves and twigs littering the concrete RV pads, this is a hidden gem that gets much less use than it deserves.
