Hamilton City Lake

The city runs this free, 3-spot primitive campground in conjunction with the Missouri Department of Conservation. Dry camping only. Picnic tables, grills, and trash at each of the three spots. It's beautiful: Rather well kept, clean, and right on the water. Downsides? Site 1 is pretty level, but Site 2 is angled down rather steeply toward the water. Site 3 is less angled but still required dropping the front of my trailer down substantially. Also, Hwy 36 is just a short distance away, so road noise is standard until the evening.

Some warnings: The road in is dirt and one-lane. I reckon it's passable by all but the most low-slung equipment. Just be advised that the only real turn-around is in the smallish teardrop at the very end. Also, the first two sites are very small and only suitable for autos, vans, or small trailers. The third site at the very end is the largest and will fit just about any length if you can get back this far. (I'm 40' total when hooked up.). Tent camping permitted. Pit toilets are available by driving around to the east side of the lake near the entrance to the golf course.
