Hallsted is, of course, in the Feather River Canyon in Twain. Much of the canyon burned recently and, because of that, people are staying away in droves. Hallsted was untouched. Go there!

A few years back, the Union Pacific Railroad committed a party foul and, in accordance with their punishment, had to pay to completely revamp the Hallsted campground. Therefore, it is now pristine.

Nice, mostly level sites, driveways that are designed to be backed into, showers, good, clean restrooms with regular maintenance and the north fork of the Feather River next door.

The Twain General Store is 1/4 mile away. They have wonderful sandwiches plus various supplies (milk, ice, hand-scooped Dryer’s ice cream, gold panning supplies, fishing bait and the necessary Zig Zag rolling papers), outdoor seating and friendly management. (Pro tip: go at 11:00 for your sandwiches)

Some of the sites have electricity (for an extra $10.00.

Highway 70 is spitting distance, but it is not noisy after dark. The Union Pacific Railroad is across the River and will be operational when you’re trying to sleep. Some of us consider that a feature, not a bug.
