“Great Dispersed Camping But Busy”

I camped out here as I took on Mount Elbert early the next morning. It was a beautiful area and the road in was well maintained and could be accessed by any vehicle. The only downside to camping here was that it was extremely busy and some road noise from people heading to the trail heads. Most camp spots also had little fire pits and the only restrooms (for tent campers) was at the trail head of Mt Elbert/Mt Massive.

Halfmoon Creek South Dispersed camping uses the main road to the Mount Massive trailhead. This road, Forest Road 110 is very well maintained and any clearance or size vehicle can access it.
The beginning of National forest property is clearly marked with signage and is the GPS location provided. Any sites prior to this are not on National Forest land.
In addition to the National forest signs there are signs stating not to camp closer than 100 feet from Halfmoon Creek. This is further enforced through the placement of bolders along the water.
Forest Road 110 has two main areas. The upper area is well maintained and two lanes wide except for one turn at the entrance. This area is suitable for any size rig. There are multiple very large camping areas, many with pull throughs. There is a large field along the road that can accommodate toy haulers and large Class As. I do not recommend traveling beyond this field if you have a larger rig.
The lower areas along the creek are accessed from spurs off FR110. These spurs are narrow and have turns with many trees. While there was a Class A in this area, use caution if camping in the lower area.
In all there are over 50 sites along the road before it ends at the official Halfmoon Creek Campground. The road is blocked past this point and the last 100 feet are used as the parking lot for the Mount Massive trailhead.
We varied between 1 bar of Verizon to no service, with the best coverage closer to the creek at 2 megabit download.
During the week the area can be peaceful, but fills quickly for the weekend.
