“Quiet park and campground, great for fishing and boating on Lake Winnipeg”

Overall Rating

We camped 2 nights at the Hecla Gull Harbour Campground in this provincial park June 2022. Campsites are spacious, partly shaded; mosquitoes were pretty bad this time of the year. The campground offers easy access to Lake Winnipeg, many of the campers have boats. A store in Gull Harbour marina just down the road and another in Hecla Village, about 5 miles away offer limited supplies, fishing bait and tackle, mosquito coils and repellent and gas (for vehicles).

Check the campground map carefully when selecting your site, not all have electricity and only Bay 4 offers water and electricity. Unfortunately the power was 50A only which did not work for us (our reservation confirmation stated both 30A and 50A) since we did not have adapters. The park ranger offered to move us to Bay 1 or 2 the next day but we decided to just use our batteries for the remaining night since we were scheduled to move to the Gull Harbour Marina and Inn cabins for an event. Also the showers are across the road between bays 3 and 4, which may require driving there to take a shower. On the other hand the restrooms and showers were very clean, there are nice playgrounds for kids and well marked trails to the beach.

Highly recommend the Lighthouse Restaurant and Lounge (about 10 min walk to the Gull Harbour marina), their Icelandic Gods beers were very good, and the beer battered pickerel and chips were excellent.
